Watched the replay - dang the offense is dysfunctional

Crowton is god awful, more so than most people realize.

It is definitely a coaching issue, i.e. lack of discipline...

Is it worth firing everybody over? Definitely not.

We are 7-2 and have an extremely good chance of finishing 10-2.

I'd suggest, in large part, its a quarterback thing. Inexperience at that position-- and this year an especially weak line-- is significant.

A mature Flynn running the 2007 offense was potent.

Let's see what it looks like next year when JJ is a little more experienced.

To me it looked like they were trying to get too cute or too fancy - waiting to see what personell the Bama D came out with before sending in players/plays. It caused major problems with the play clock.

Now, some of the problems were definitely on the players - receivers slipping, QB's not knowing exactly where the first down marker was, RB's and receivers dropping passes in their hands.

And some of the O line "flinching" stuff looked rather nitpicky by the officials.

But sometimes it just looked like chaos out there.

I agree, Crowton needs to go. I think he tries to do too much offensively and players get confused on where they have to line up. This has been a rather consistent problem since Crowton has been here. I do not recall these types of problems under Fisher.

Not to mention, we are still ranked LAST in the SEC. Which is pitiful

You answered your own question.

Crowton tries to be too fancy, too cute, and tries to outsmart the defense instead of just letting your playmakers do their thing. Hannagrif said last night that whenever LSU just calls a play quickly, goes to the line of scrimmage and just runs a play, we generally have success.

Remember our last timeout, the 3rd and 2 when it looked like Saban called a timeout. CBS showed Saban fussing at the officials. What was he fussing about, it was about LSU's late substitution that is designed to catch the defense offguard. How'd that tricky move pan out? We had to call our own last timeout because the playclock was running out, or we were confused. We tricked ourselves into burning a timeout, and on top of that we tried to ram a 3rd and 2 iso play right into Bama's strength, their d-line and linebackers.

It is mind boggling that this offense ranks dead last in the SEC and ranks in the 100's nationally. That is a serious misuse of talent.

It seems like most of our problems stem from one thing:
Substitutions. Just run a whole series of plays with the same personnel and then substitute out packages on third down, or when people get winded.

I know that OCs like to mix packages to see how defenses will respond so that late in the game they have an idea what to expect, but one way or another we can't seem to get the play and players on the field in a timely manner.

crowton, is putting too much on the players plates. if this offense with so many weapons was simplified, maybe these great athletes playing for LSU would do a much better job. if he can't simplify with diversity, by using all of these weapons (great talent) available to him, he is in way over his head.
