I try to look at as many factors as I can before formulating my game prediction. Here's some of the formula so far...

GIANTS negatives

Eli's heel ding. Most say it is minimal. Could be. I've talke to those who have dealt with this. They all say it is slow healing and prone to aggravation. So we'll see. It's not nothing.

Sharper has Eli's number. 4 picks on him in 4 games. 47% completion rate. Mean to look up what GW defenses have done against him.

Giants are 29th in red zone scoring. That won't cut against these Saints.

If people are stingy on giving respect to the Saints cuz of who they have played, then how do the G men rate so high? 3 of their first 5 games were against top 5 draft pick looking teams- Bucs, Raiders, & Chiefs. Washington could be in that mix too. I see only one meaningful win, 33-31 last second over the Cowturds.

They have played some stout defense but starters Boley, Canty, Phillips, and Ross are out. SS Brown looks like a nice matchup for some JShock back at them. You don't want to be depleted on DB's when facing Drew & Co.

Saints +

The D is looking legit. 10 picks only 5 less than entire 2008. 10 sacks vs. 28 for entire 2008. My preseason prediction was that 40 sacks would = first rd bye.

Ya know Shockey has the hyperdrive engaged.

They dropped Renardo Foster. A sign that Bushrod should be back in action. Clancy returned to practice. Dinkins practicing too. Both ex-Giants with a little extra motivation

After a bye week for extra study and two weeks of lower key passing attack I cannot help but think Payton will have a new trick to pull out of the hat.

The rushing has averaged 60+ yds more than all of 2006-2008. If you think it has been good so far, it could be better. PT AND Bell 1-2ing for the first time. PS: Reggie's only 100yd rushing game? Versus Giants '06

the key to the saints acheiving victory will be their ability to stifle NY's run game. If they can't gainfully produce on the ground then Eli will be handcuffed IMO

I think another key to the game is the battle of the lines, espically when NYG have the ball if we win the battle on the line we shut down their run game and we get pressure on the QB

the battle on the other side is important too, we much give bress time one of the most talented Dlines in the NFL if open up holes for are RB and give bress time we will light up this giant D

We need to jump out to a 14+ point lead so that the Giants have to put the ball in Eli's hands. You know they want to run, run, and run some more. We need to get them to scrap the plans to run quickly.

I don't know how serious Eli's heel is, but I know a grown man that crawled on the floor when he had that same thing. If he put any weight on it at all the pain was unbearable. He also said he never knew when it would act up. He would think he was over it, and it would start again. He got shots in that heel for a long time.

it is a progressive injury...I've had it , it is a bitch if you keep on it , but with rest it heals....the problem is with an NBA or NFL season , where do you really get time to rest it.....it doesn't affect you when you play , it affects you when you are in bed the next day before your get up....feels like nails are being driven into your heel.

just thought I'd throw in this from Brees presser today. Made me LOL

Q: Has Jeremy Shockey lobbied for the ball more?

A: He always lobbies for the ball.

Q: Any more this week?

A: No, but you can tell. I know the feeling. Jonathan Vilma knows the feeling from last week. For guys playing against your old team for the first time, I think any competitive person is going to have that little extra juice or that little extra fire. Jeremy Shockey’s a guy who doesn’t have any shortage of energy during the week or on gameday. For him, it’s just going to be about kind of staying poised and composed while playing the kind of football he’s been playing. He’s got somewhat of a Wildman mentality, but very much within the scheme of what we’re doing and I’m confident he’s going to be just fine.

this is what is becoming the pivotal matchup in the game to me...

The Saints likely will attempt to test Michael Johnson, C.C. Brown and Aaron Rouse. Johnson has been good in coverage in his three years as a Giant, but Brown is known as a “box” safety (meaning he’s accustomed to playing down low as a strong safety) and Rouse was bounced from Green Bay partly because the Packers didn’t trust him to cover in space.

The Giants likely will have to use a dime defense to defend New Orleans’ passing attack, meaning Brown and Rouse will have to play deep. Late in the win over Oakland, Rouse bit on a play-action fake, allowing TE Zach Miller to get deep up the middle for a 29-yard catch. Without the play call, it’s tough to know whether Rouse was at fault, but he certainly slammed on the brakes and put it in reverse like it was his responsibility to get deep. This weekend, if he misses an assignment against a much better team, the result could be worse.

This i like, our 2nd half running game gives us finishing power, if it gets better? , well, thats scary. If Brees is well protected, add 300+ passing yards to the running attack, we could possibly win by 3 TDs, im not saying this will happen, im saying if the run and pass game come together it could happen.

Blu.

I have had what Eli has twice. He will be able to drop back just fine, but running out of the pocket will not be so easy. They will of course run and run some more and they will wear out the short passes to burn clock and help Eli get rid of the ball quicker so that he doesn't test his running skills.

SPECIAL TEAMS! We need a big play to open up the scoring on the giants. They are doomed if its a high scoring game...which it will be

I've been reading up on their D more. Upper echelon fo sho. BUT not quite so fast my friend... don't judge it all by the numbers. Could you create any easier schedule the past 3 weeks than Bucs, Chiefs, and Raiders??? I venture to say the Saints would have outdid them more than the NYG 95-23 total. Again as said earlier, you can get by with 2nd & 3rd string DBs versus those teams. The Brees flying machine is another matter.

Another key issue to me is the style of the D. They blitz little actually and depend on pressure from the front 4. Those 4 are good but so was Philly's front 4. I think the Jets had the best style of D and gameplan to minimize the Saints. Subtract 2 defensive scores and it you see it was effective. I hope the Giants stay in their conservative mode. If so, I think the results will be more like Philly than the Jets.
