Most addicting game I've played online in ages.
I love the constant slot-machine of getting points and achievements (untouchable! killtacular! splatter spree! killaminjaro!) while you battle wave after wave of wraiths and plasma-grenade suicide bombers and seemingly invincible hammer-guys.
best board is the one w/ the warthog taht respawns after each round.
What is the farthest you've gotten on legendary..and with how many players?

not legendary but on normal, set 7.
still am pretty high on the bungie.net firfight ranking scale.

Is this the one where there is no matchmaking, are you're pretty much screwed if you want to play and none of your friends are on?

Yes, you can play it offline through system link I believe.
Set 7? Wow. I haven't gotten very far on normal but mostly b/c the friends I'm playing with suck and hog all the lives. Not that I'm great or anything but they usually die 4 or 5 times to my 1. Is there actually an end to the waves?

yeah, system link & split screen are also an option. I think you can have up to 4 on your xbox.
you really have to have a team strategy to get good at this..especially when waves of suicide bombers and fuel-rod cannon aliens descend in mass on your position.
really fun stuff. headshots are critical as is the correct weapon selection.

It was just me and one other guy.
Needless to say we both have skills, but even we were really suprised by this.
It get's real tough because eventually all of the skulls are on.
Leaving you without ammo, grenades, little health, and bad guys with 2x health.
- Brutes become almost impossible to kill
- Grunts are everywhere throwing grenades
- Those f'ing flying bugs are your worst nightmare.
That one game lasted about 3 hours. I haven't played since.

does it ever disable your HUD? we turned that off and played a round the other day and it was HARD to get kills.

was a very stout Halo 2 player, but didn't stick with halo 3.
