Not sure the reason why not before (Saban knows best), but I can understand why we couldn't land a QB worth a flip after signing the #1 QB recruit in the nation.
Not sure how many top QB's would have enough confidence to think they could overtake the most highly rated Lousiana HS QB to come along ever.

'03 We signed JaMarcus (Top 5 QB) and Flynn
'04 Prolly didn't want to come because of 2QBs in previous class
