Beer connaisseur question.

I like to think of myself as a budding beer connaisseur, and am always open to advice on some new types of beers to try. I was wondering what are some good beers that not everyone may have heard of that are worth trying.
I am always big on buying a pick 6 sixpack from a local grocery store here that has a wide variety of beers. Let me know some of your favorites because I love trying new beers.
Thanks

Typically everyone thinks of Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale but I firmly believe that their stout and porter are really good, their Porter especially. I have been on a big American beer kick. I dont remember the last imported beer I bought. There are so many American options that are unique that I am trying my hand at as many as I can.

Here are a few excellent American beers that are either in my fridge right now, or have been recently.
Rogue American Amber Ale
Rogue Dead Guy Ale
Firestone Double Barrel Ale

You have to be kidding, right? Samuel smith has to be one of the worst tasting beers that I have ever tasted in my life.

Really?? What kinds of beer do you really like. Not saying that you have to like certain beers, just curious as to why the hate for SS.

Seriously? You're the first person I've ever heard say this. Everything I've ever had by them as been excellent.

They are decent but not all that. A lot of people like them though.
Beers to try:
Full Sail Amber and IPA (there pale ale is not that great)
Lagunitas IPA and Censored
Left Hand Sawtooth Ale (very balanced between hops n malts)
Unibroue Maudite and La Fin du Monde
Stone Pale Ale (best pale ale IMO) their IPA is ok
Westmalle Dubbel
Ommengang Abbey Ale
Brooklyn Brown ale and Local no. 1
That should get you started.

We don't need to be pissing off potential beer lovers just bc they dislike SS. Even if he chooses never to drink SS then he still has lots of options that are better than Natty. SS just may not be his taste. I am curious to know what his tastes are since SS is pretty popular.

Different strokes.

Full sail makes some great products.
I also love every one of the abita beers I have had with Jockamo IPA as one of my favorites.
Love Sierra Nevada
also love Anchor Steam
Also love all of the MS Lazy magnolia brews.
Have tried all of the Shiners.
Have tried and love fat tire.
I am open to trying any beer at least once.
Sorry for the differ in opinion about Samuel Smith, just my personal opinion. Who knows I may try another one tomorrow and think it tastes better.

A friend cam back from SPECS this weekend with a plethora of beer for me. My fridge has Dogfish Head Punkin and Indian Brown, Magic Hat's Oktoberfest and Not Quite Pale Ale, and St. Arnold's Oktoberfest waiting for me when I get home.

You are making some nice steps. If you liked Jockamo then you are primed to move into the world of good American IPA's. Jockamo is great for Abita IMO but not that great when compared to Stone or some of the other big boys in the IPA world.
Also when you are at one of the beer bars in town (Chimes, Bulldog, etc) try out the Abita select tap. Right now I think it is still the Pilsner, which is really good. Hopefully their Oatmeal Stout will return. Best Abita offering.

By far the best Abita product I've ever had.
