Linebacker play is Superior right now.

Chavis has improved the play of our LBs immensely so far. Kelvin Sheppard looked like Urlacher out there yesterday making tackles for losses and at the line. Riley and Cutrera, Coleman all were making plays. The D-Line is young but allowing gap control so that the LBs can fly to the ball and make plays. Nobody is running the ball against us at all. If we can stop the run against Fla and Bama and make them pass more we win those games in my opinion.

I'll eat Crow on LB Sheppard. He played as well as I have ever seen him play yesterday. I think Chavis is responsible for a lot of this.

I finally saw them hit people, and hit them hard, and drive them back. be fore it looked like we caught tackles.

Theyre getting better each week. Classic Chavis Defense. I must admit, I like our D against anybody. Our offense still makes me cringe a little though.

Sheppard and Peterson were the best players on the field for us yesterday. Brandon Taylor was a close 2nd behind those two. If we can ever start getting any pressure at all with our front four we will be the best defense in the nation but so far we get no push at all. Do we even remember what a sack looks like?

Chavis did some stuff with em I hadn't seen before, like rushing em from the DE position at times. Gonna be interesting to see how/ who he plays against UF. Do we stay with 3 LBs (with Harry being the 3rd one most of the game) or only 2 and bring in an extra DB like Hatcher?

Given Chavis' history with Meyer's offense while at Tennessee, I think the defense will more than hold its own against UF. I'll admit that I was a little skeptical about the Chavis hire, but so far, the defense has improved every game and the mistakes seem to be getting corrected. Of course, like any fan, I would like to see more pressure, but at this time, that's my only complaint about the defense. They have single-handedly kept us in games this year.

Here is my mea culpa too.

We have to find ways to get Alem free from Double teams. run some stunts or move him inside to isolate him against guards if needs be like the Giants do with Umenioria.

I never understood how people would say that K. Sheppard was a shitty backer. He isn't perfect but he has been playing better each game and has lately been sniffing out a lot of runs.

somebody said they saw this done on the plays where the LBs rushed from the outside, but I didn't notice it and haven't seen a replay.

I agree that linebacker play is much better this year, with still some room for improvement.
And the defense overall is better and improving each week. The one thing that is gnawing at me just a bit, though, is the lack of a desire to rush more than four guys. I know they sent more than that occasionally, but mostly it was 4. Against Cox, that worked out because he's not terribly accurate. However, I have this fear that we are going to make Snead into an All-American with that approach. I'm just not sure we can get pressure with 4 guys. I think we'll have to do a better job of mixing up different rush packages.

I agree lber play has improved tremendously compare to last year and earlier this year. Yesterday was the best tackling I have seen from our lbers in a long time.
Having said that, I hope we see same results against speed backs from UF. GA backs were not the fastest or shiftiest.
I would also like to see an occasional delayed blitz up middle from one of our lbers on sure passing situations...a la lionel turner vs Oklahoma. This would help our struggling Dline get pressure on qb.

last yr at times he looked bad out on the edge and in coverage. he had a monster game at Arky though, I think like 15 tackles and a smack that caused a fumble that we didn't recover. he had a few good games down the stretch.

I think you answered your own question. I saw a lot less pressure/blitzing this game then our previous 4....I think with cox's tendancy to throw a lot of picks we decided to sit back in zone and let him try and read it and having him screw up. While we didnt get the amount of picks I expected(we had several chances) it still obviously worked

Eah our Georgia boys aren't bad and Jacob is the man and has waited his turn and stuck with hit.

Cutrera has just been a straight up beast this year. I am really impressed with him.

I know this'll sound like disrespect to our d-line, and I don't mean it that way, but our linebackers are our "front three" so to speak.
