we didnt let them score, we intentionally ran out of the back of the endzone for field position purposes

Letting them score a TD would have been to gain field position as well.

What are the better odds?

1. Making a goal line stance 1st and goal from the 2 to a team who just ran the ball 48 yards down your throat in 4 or 5 plays?

OR

2. Having LSU drive 40 to 45 yrds for a game winning FG with 1:20 on the clock and 2 timeouts?

I sort of agree that it gave us the best odds, but there is something in principle I can't agree with giving up the LEAD with a minute to go. So I was hoping that MSU would score on first down, but didn't want us to "let" them do it. If that makes any sense at all.

But the saftey is very, very different. You aren't giving up the lead. And in fact those 2 points were completely meaningless, especially with 1:00 left.

Pretty sure there was 1:29 left not a minute which makes a difference especially since the clock stops on 1st downs. Plus IMO 2 timeouts is probably worth at least a minute on the clock.

Have no problem with the safety with a minute left. It was the safety with 4 minutes left that I'm not sure about.

Punter recovers botched snap at the 1, and had already mishandled a prior snap on an extra point. You would think a mishandled snap might be fresh on his mind punting in front of his own goal line. He was lost.

+1

I said at the time...he should have picked that ball up, done an immediate about-face, and thrown a tight spiral right thru the back of the end zone, rather than falling on it at the one.

But, overall, our clock management has been about as reliable as our special teams coaching. We should consider donating our ST coach's salary to ACORN, it would be more productive there.
Wow, I couldn't have summed that up any better.

Didn't he pick up the ball with his back to the defense? If that's the case I could see why he would at least attempt to see where the defense was just in case he had time to still punt the ball. What I didn't like was when the ball came loose the punter simply punched the ground in fustration vs. trying to recover the ball.
