Excessive Celebration

So PPeterson was called for it ... I don't think it was really excessive unless I missed something which is possible as I was distracted by MANY children at the party where we were. What about when Lafell scored his td and high stepped into the ez ... couldn't that have been called poor sportsmanship as well???

MSU was just piss that we got a int return for a touchdown. Him folding his arm is NOT excessive.

Whether or not these refs throw a flag depends on the mood they are in. It's so discretionary it's ridiculous.

Act like you've been there before.
Was unecessary and put his team in a more difficult situation. Kind of like Alex Russian, except he gets benched. Peterson had 2 15 yd penalties in the first half and should have sat out a series because of it.

I may be a little biased here, but I don't think so. All I saw was that PP stopped, looked into the cheering section and folded his arms over his chest. It was like, "What do you think, Tiger fans?"
I saw no reason to call that penaly for unsportsmanlike conduct. It seemed like a horrible call to me, and I was disappointed that the ESPN SEC Game of the Week announcers did not point it (the bad call) out.
By the way, those announcers were pretty lousy.

Celebrating with your teammates is normal and okay, but showing off and boasting is not okay.
It's very simple, don't do it and you won't get penalized.
You can't compare the two 15 yd. penalties.
One was for not using his head and showing off...the other one was for showing over zealous hustle. If he would have tipped the ball, which he almost did, no flag.

Wow dude. You've obviously never played sports and known what it feels like to make a great play. He didn't even showboat much. Not only that, but it's obvious you have never played because you have no idea what it's like to be so close to making a play that you can't just stop. I applaud the effort he made to block the punt.

The refs have very specific things that they are coached to look for. The arms folded pose is in the instructional video as an example of unsportsmanlike behavior. "The Viking" hands on your head is another. Do these, and you will get flagged.

There were so many home-field calls for moo st, this is just one of many... just like the phantom delay-of-game call... sec refs especially, and all refs in all sports, are always going to favor home teams, mainly (hopefully!?!) only subconsciously, and if it seems that lsu, and other top teams, get more penalties called against them, than other teams, they do, it is a fact, this has been proven many times. The top teams are always going to be the most aggressive, are going to always have more top athletes, everyone trying to do their absolute best, trying sometimes too hard, you are going to have more penalties... and the refs know this, and the refs know they can get away with more in a game like lsu vs. moo st, lsu up, moo st down, david vs. goliath, etc., etc. ... and, of course, everybody knows, we must not criticize the refs, might destroy their weak fragile little cracked eggshell minds/egos... so they can get away with almost anything at all, especially in a game like lsu vs. moo st... lsu certainly did not help themselves any, good thing it did not come down to a situation requiring a legitimate call from one of those refs... anyone who watched the sc vs. ole miss game saw what I thought looked like the refs trying to reach their quota in the 1st half... trying to literally outdo each other, right there in front of a national audience, and to hell with how it affects the game ... way to go, sec refs... show the entire nation what you are really made of... sec officials look like they just escaped from some place where the dress code involves sleeveless jackets with long tie straps... sec director of officials rogers redding needs to get his head out of his deep dark area, back onto his shoulders, which is where I THINK it should be, and start using it to get the sec refs straight, before more total em-BARE-arse-ment!!!

Read my post again. I expressed the difference in the two penalties. The first one was because of his failure to keep his head and go a little too far. He has no excuse.
The second one was the result of good hustle. I used the term "over-zealous" as a compliment. You can't fault a player for the hustle he showed on that play, but to the contrary, the player should be commended for the hustle he showed.
Yes, I played and coached. I was just pointing out the difference in the two penalties and how they contrast. The first was a case of failure to think and dumb mistake...the second one was a case of hustle and a bad break.

Speaking of excessive celebration...trindon holiday should probably chill out with all his celebrating. He gains like 15 yards on a kickoff return and he dances like he won the superbowl. Chill out and try to break a tackle.
