A little objective criticism

Isn't a bad thing.
Everyone points to our lackluster wins over washington and vanderbilt as saying LSU should be better than this, we should blow these teams out.
OK, step back from the keyboard for this one because it might sting a little bit for most of you.
Before the season, many of us here predicted a 9-3 year after an 8-5 year last year. 9-3 is respectable considering what we lost on the DL, OL, and WR. And not to mention we have a sophmore at QB with 2 starts under his belt(remember this was preseason) and anyone who thought we would only lose 1 or 2 were really just setting themselves up for dissapointment.
Fast forward to 2 weeks into the season, we didn't play too well and people are having a shyt fit acting like we were supposed to blow teams out and go undefeated this year. Where did this sudden elevated expectation come from???? Did i miss something??? This still looks like a 9-3 team to me, hell maybe 10-2 if ole miss slips up on us. Yea, criticism is good and this is the "rant", i would just like to know why some of you thought we were actually going to do better than what we thought before the season. Honestly, were some of you expecting more of a dominant team in a rebuilding year?
IMHO, the realitigers and positigers are one and the same, because realistically, we knew we would perform like this all along on our way to a respectable but not great 9-3 season, and the NEGATIGERS are the ones with their purple and gold glasses on.

makes sense. most of us knew some of these problems were gonna happen. but since we aren't blowing teams out anymore its a 7-6 season for us lol.
there will always be complaining, hell we win a MNC and people get on here saying we were just some lucky s.o.b.'s. It'll never end

If you predict anything less than a 40 pt MOV, you are criticized.
In hindsight, we have been right all along. Whatever label people attach is based on their own perspective. The overly optimistic are as much as a problem as the overly pessimistic. They set themselves up for unreal expectations.

IMO, week 1 we looked like a 4 loss team. After week 2 I saw improvements that I thought made us look like a 3 loss team. I don't believe this is a national championship team (and I don't see anything wrong with that), but I do believe we can win the west and get into a BCS bowl should we keep improving. Also IMO, we are a better team thus far in '09 than we were in '08.

Well at this point last year we had played App State and NTexas. I would venture to say that this year's opponents were alot better. Vandy is probably going to be a better team than Auburn was last year. I don't think we will really know what this team is about til Georgia.

I think the GA game will let us know what our ceiling is. It's far enough down the line that our negatives can be corrected and our positives made clear to the team. These next two weeks need to be about improvement and building confidence for some of our younger players and especially our young QB. We have the pieces and the sky is the limit for these players, especially going into the future.

The frustration is with the potential that everyone sees:
If we can give up almost 500 yards to UW, only run 40 something offensive plays, and almost blow them out... just almost... then imagine how good the Tigers would be if they tightened up the defense.
If we can move the ball effectively into the red zone 5 or 6 times against Vandy only to settle for field goals 3x (not to mention giving up a safety), and almost blow them out... almost... if only execution were a little better, then imagine how good the Tigers could be if they all got in sync.
I think that most people would agree that we haven't seen LSU's best game yet. Some people choose to look at that as the program declining; others, myself included, are crossing their fingers that everything will click over the next 2 or 3 weeks and we will have a fantastic season. But there is frustration in not seeing the team play their potential. I have said this 3 or 4 times over the last week-- I feel like they are progressing and I would rather see them find their mojo and click as the season progresses and finish strong. I would rather not see them be like the Va Tech teams from 5-10 years ago that looked invincible in the first half of the season, only to lose 2 of their last 3.

USC, Bama, hell even Florida has dropped games that they were clearly favored. texas lost to Texas Tech. Ohio State vs. Navy comes to mind, then the next week they give USC the game. But yet when our team doesn't play up then we are not in the same boat as the "elite" teams? I don't even think we are elite yet, but you can't say we are the only ones. VT plays in probably the worst conference of the BCS conferences and they still lose a couple conference games a year.

I just don't understand why anyone would assume Ole Miss should beat us. I'm not saying we should be heavy favorites, but I've just never seen a team coming off of a 4 loss season and losing its best 2 (or at worst 2 of its best 3) players to the NFL with such high expectations.
In week 1 Ole Miss was beating Memphis 24-14 with 9 minutes left.
At that same point in week 2 Middle Tennessee State was beating Memphis 31-7.

High expectations usually equals disappointment and frustration; however, I do not see the point in saying we are a 8-4 team or an 11-1 team or whatever. Let's just see how it all pans out. I think it is hard to say that any team (except for maybe Florida) is just better than we are, and we should mark it down as a loss. That to me is ridiculous.
