Attention Gary Crowton: Go vertical...end the lateral passes

Three of JJ's passes completed were for negative yards. With Dickson, TT, Lafell, and Randle (have yet to catch a pass) it defies any football logic not to go vertical.
See USC's game winning drive against OSU as excellent use of an effective vertical offensive attack.
Thank you.

Crowton did go vertical, except is was when JJ was facing the sidelines vs. the goal line.

So, you have been on here since Dec of 2003, with 50 something posts, now all of a sudden you are coming out of the wood-work to back Crowton and the play-calling. WOW, just WOW. I am never amazed by members of our so-called "fanbase". Blows my frickin' mind though

I sure hope Crowton reads these boards. He probably never even considered throwing it downfield.

M-Train, I hear you...do we throw over the middle anymore?
Jefferson is still a work in progress, and Crowton isn't challenging him yet.
It doesn't help that the O-line isn't giving him the best protection.

good call, but i also saw a lot of missed blocks on those plays. they work better in practice.

Funny you bring that up, Mother Clucker...I did see a ton of penetration by Vandy last night, and JJ was getting flushed out of the pocket quite a bit. I really think he played a great game considering the cirsumstances.
Our OL looked to be a problem at times last night, we have work to do on that and ULL will be a good game to work on some technique to correct some things on both sides of the ball.

What does post count have to do with whether he is right or wrong? I never cease to be amazed by dumbasses that wear high post counts like a badge of honor.
Loser.

It means he has time to sit on the couch posting, watching sportscenter, and eating cheetos all day. His footbally knowledge is obviously greater because of it.

quote:Dude, I know M-Train personally. He was at the first ever TD gathering...at the Bulldog the night before the LSU/Illinois Sugar Bowl. He was dancing on a table there until he slipped and fell, and badly hurt himself. Regardless of this, his post is right on.

Anyway, M-train is a good guy...he seems to care (about what? I have no idea).

Crowton doesn't read the coverage and determine who to fire the ball to. JJ does that.

Are they worried that it will open the door for INT's and possible returns?

Another thing I noticed watching ESPN this morning and the USC coverage...
On the 3rd and 9 to McKnight, running vertical routes really opened up the short middle. It seems like that's been done to us numerous times this season, with a tight end or slot receiver getting the first down right in front of a linebacker that dropped too deep.

How many long passes did JJ complete last night? I think he had one deep in complete, but when he went up top, not so good.
I remember the overthrow to Mitchell, the nowhere close throw in the right corner to Peterson, the overthrown interception to Dickson, the bad fade route to Toliver.
Yes, it would be great to "up top" more, but we don't have evidence yet that JJ can throw such passes with any level of success.

I care about Mom, Dad, puppy dogs and fairy tales, and Uncle Todd who waives his penis. I believe President Obama can make this land what it once was: an Artic Region.

People:
As long as JJ is actually completing passes to OUR players, then I really couldn't care less how long of a pass it is. He has done a really good job of managing the games he has been in. He has not really forced balls into the secondary just to try to make a play. If there are not guys open and the pocket collapses, he either takes off with the ball or throws the ball into the sidelines.
JJ has played well and is a big reason we are 2-0 right now.
