I am greatly concerned about how our backs are going to function without a solid fullback. Quinn Johnson would have plowed holes in that line for scott to run through. We don't have that battering ram and I think our running game between the tackles will suffer.

Also the second team DLine outplayed the 1's.

o-line disappointed as usual. they better do better or they just might end up being the most overrated unit on the team.

Geauxld Finger, you hit the nail on the head. The lack of a running game is my biggest concern of LSUs performance. People are mad about the defense, but they were on the field for almost twice as many plays as LSU had on offense. LSU did nothing to control the clock and wear down Washington's D plus let our defense rest.

The problem with the defense is that we can't find a coordinator who will fricking blitz. We should have sent so many different packages at Locker tonight.

I agree about the blocking, but we averaged 5.1 ypc.

We should have dominated them on the lines. No excuse for that. Oline needs to take responsibility for the lackluster offense. I will also say that Crowton called a VERY vanilla game plan. They didn't show a lot and never really found a suitable situation to work Shep in at the wild tiger. But getting beat at the point of attack is inexcusable for the vets we have on the line. Granted many times UW stacked the box, yet we seemed reluctant to stretch the field. We had superior talent, but a very poor game plan.

I don't know that the lack of running game was so much the o-line's fault as it was a lack of diversity in the play calling. LSU could not have run more than three or four different running plays. Other than the option, LSU never tried to run wide on Washington. Where were the end arounds to Holiday or putting Russell Shepard in the wildcat formation? The offensive game plan was very vanilla.

Slightly off topic, but I was honestly expecting our O line to get slaughtered....hard....you guys were getting pressure for sure, but Locker had enough time to throw alot of balls for completions.

Was our O line underrated or your D line overrated?

we rushed 3 or 4 people the entire game because our new DC is horrible

Ever since Saban left, we can't figure out that you need to blitz on defense every once in a while in order to be successful.

We sent a couple blitzes in the first quarter... and then apparently that got boring, so we began showing blitz and dropping back into coverage. Washington looked dumbfounded after this brilliant coaching decision.

UWDawgs,

I think it was a mix of things. The refs rarely called holding on both teams. There was like 2 holding calls the whole game. Also, I think your OLine was better than expected, and our DL made some push, but Locker is elusive. Much like Jefferson, they get away from the rush and make it tough. A mobile QB can make an OL look better than they are.

Our OL looked tired and out of sync. The crowd definitely had an effect with OL timing way off, which gave your DL an edge. I think also, our DL tried too hard (see Alem) and lost their lane responsibilities a few times.

Overall, I think LSU underestimated UW, and a lot of that goes to Miles. I really think he really believed what he said prior to 2007 when he claimed the PAC-10 was weak, and you just spit it back in his face.

In the end, UW will be much improved this season and has a good shot at a bowl. Willingham just couldn't coach leadership once Locker went down last year. The team also quit, plain and simple, so the record is misleading.

Opening games on the road are almost always a struggle for LSU with the exception of the MSU game in 2007. It makes a big difference when you start on the road.

Agreed, I'll have to admit I have hated Miles ever since he not only talked down the PAC 10 but specifically (and sarcastically) called out UW as weak, easy to kick us while we're down I guess...but we'll be back, he should have known that.

Washington just came out and tried to prove a point that this isn't the same Husky team of last year..

I don't believe LSU played all that bad tonight.... Considering!
It was 9:30 pm and playing to almost 1:00 morning had a lot to do with it. Like giving up that last TD, Those Tigahs were ready to go home...

We won without playing near to our potential, which is the sign of an inexperienced but very talented team.
