Panthers TE Dante Rosario "might be expendable," according to the Charlotte Observer.
Rosario has done nothing since emerging as a Week 1 waiver wire darling last September, and he's fallen clearly behind Gary Barnidge and Jeff King. The Panthers will keep a kickoff specialist and a second fullback, so Rosario's roster spot is in jeopardy.

Bengals signed TE Kolomona Kapanui, formerly of the Saints.
If you've been watching HBO's Hard Knocks, Kapanui and J.P. Foschi's signings make plenty of sense. If you're aware of the Bengals' history, Kapanui is an especially good fit. He was arrested this offseason.

I don't think we would trade with the Panthers, so we would have to hope he falls to us and we can pick him up off waivers.

BIOGRAPHY: Three-year starter, awarded all-Conference honors after his senior and junior seasons.
POSITIVES: Reliable pass catching tight end with possibilities at a variety of positions. Quickly releases off the line, immediately gets into routes and effortlessly makes the reception in stride, looking the pass into his hands and adjusting to the errant throw. Displays good focus, concentration, and possesses natural receiving skills. Runs solid routes, comes back to the ball out of breaks or finds the open space on the field to make himself an available target. Gives effort blocking, setting with good knee bend and leverage while effectively using his hands.
NEGATIVES: Marginal strength and does not get movement as a blocker even on a small-school level. More quick than fast and does not possess the speed necessary to separate down the field at the next level.
ANALYSIS: Cloherty has been a productive player at Brown the past three years, yet he lacks the measurables to be a true tight end at the next level. His pass-catching skills could help him catch on as either an H-back or move tight end in a backup role

scanning Cardinals boards he seemed to have zero TE blocking ability. Miller was okay blocking but more of a receiver type, so maybe a fit. Headline: Pope Made A Saint. Ortega or Dinkins can be the big body blocker role.

Let's talk first about the other three TEs we have on our roster and their odds of making the team. I'm not enough of a fanatic to use a DVR to replay the game and grade out the tight ends or anything, so there are just my general impressions.

Buck Ortega surprised me last night with his speed. He seems to be a good receiver. I haven't seen enough of his blocking to really say much about it, but he is light at 250 lbs.

Darnell Dinkins has seemed to block well. The times I've seen him running routes, he's seemed slow.

Martrez Milner seems lucky to have missed being cut earlier.

If we keep Ortega and Dinkins, then I think we're keeping a decent receiving TE and a decent blocking TE. I'm not convinced it's a disaster.

With that in mind, I'm skeptical of us giving up too much to acquire a TE via trade. I don't think we're desperate or anything.
