What if LSU plays USC in a bowl game this year?

I can see it happening right now. They will have a "down" year and go 10-2 or 9-3, and we will do better than last year, but still just "ok" based on our standards. We will play them in a bowl game, destroy them finally, then have to hear the national media spew off and downplay our win:

"Well, yea, LSU finally got to play USC and they beat them, but this USC team was just not that good at all this year."

Probably not.

Teams from the same conference never play each other in bowl games.

This likely won't happen, but if it does you're right. We'll keep hearing how USC was playing with a true freshman QB

It would be true that this is not one of their more powerful teams, but to beat them in a bowl game would still be quite delightful, sort of like destroying the Irish in the Sugar bowl.

Here's what I'll tell you about the USC thing. Of course I would still like to get a piece of them. Some of the excitement of that match-up has gone down though. But I know this for a fact, NO team was going to beat us in that dome that night we played OU for the 03 championship. I was there and can tell you, it was electric, one of the most fun times in my life.

abso-freaking-lutly

im just saying that if usc goes 9-3 or 10-2 then gets smoked by lsu the statement "usc just had a bad year" would be 100% da truth

Your main concern right now is how the media will react after LSU trounces USC? I can only hope the season ends that way!

This may be true, but if both teams are even that year, the media will not acknowledge that, and you know it:

USC 10-2, Pac 10 Champions
"Well this USC team had a bad year, and nowhere close to the past few years."

LSU 9-3, not SEC Champions
"Look at this great LSU team. They rebounded from last year and put together a very, very good team. Of course they should have beaten USC."

Both teams would be having down years, but the media would spin it to have the rebound-LSU powerhouse having a great year, beat a struggling USC team that still wins the Pac 10.

Careful what you wish for. USC doesn't lose any games outside of their letdown pac-10 loss or two each year. I seem to remember a couple of hide-tannings they've laid on the SEC in recent years.

first off, this scenario is pretty uinlikely.

how could a 9-3 lsu team end up playing the pac 10 champs in a bowl game unless lsu gets the at large bid. but what are the chances of a 9-3 lsu team getting the at large big and playing usc considering the rose bowl tie in with the big 10?

if usc dosen't win the pac 10, they definitly had a bad season.

plus lsu going 9-3 and beating usc in any bowl would be an improvement from last season.

Which one? The Arkansas team that was playing at half strength, or the Auburn team that lost 5 games?

Doesnt matter how unlikely it is, you know the media would spin it; they do it year in and year out, and the only time they give SEC credit is when they really have no other option: SEC BEAT DOWNS in national championship games. And they still try and downplay those.

In reality if you had to rank the LSU and USC teams based on those scenarios they would be 7-8s out of 10. Media would make it out to be

USC was a 2 that year while LSU was a 9.5.

The Auburn games were nothing great, but USC totally destroyed Arky twice. Even with McFadden dinged up, those were some arse wippings.

I didn't think anything could surpass the sight of Charlie Weis getting the smug look smacked off his fat face...but seeing the arrogance being stomped out of johnson and the techsters trumped that. Beating usc and then having the pleasure of listening to little petey carrol tap dance around the truth would be pure heaven.

I think you underestimate the effect a player that dynamic has on a team. When your opponent knows you wont be using your main weapon it neutralizes a lot of what you can do, and cuts down on what the D needs to focus on.
