My Son - Seeing the Season Through They Eyes of a Kid

Signed him up for football this year and he's playing with 7-10 year olds. It's a flag football league. He's 7 and I thought it would be a good way to get him started.
He was timed as the quickest and fastest kid on the team and they put him at starting tailback even though he is the youngest (one other 7 yr. old, actually). We're going to work on the sweep play this afternoon when I get home from work. That's his play. He's super excited.
I'm sure that I'll get the usual flames and negative comments for posting this, but I was just about to shut it down for the day and thought about how excited I was to go home and play football with my son. He loves LSU and is looking forward to the season, so it'll be fun to have him watch Scott, Williams, Murphy, and Holliday and help him learn from them. I'm excited about the season too, but this reminds me of how this time of year felt when I was a kid, too.
Plus, I wanted to brag on him a bit!

You can play football with him by just throwing the ball around a little bit. No need to start burning him out and taking the simple, innocent fun of the game (which is the way kids see it) by practicing plays and crap with them.

For some reason that scene in the movie "Heathers" went through my head when I read this. "I love my dead gay son".

I do that. The coach said that was his play yesterday and he's all excited about practicing it.

I'm glad I'm not in your head then! Weird.

FWIW, no starting RB in LSU history will tell you their football story that begins with, "my dad/uncle/neighbor,etc. didn't practice with me in the backyard/playground/street/whatever." The ones that make it big time have had it in their blood from very early on.
With that being said, hope your kid doesn't grow up hating you for making him play sports.

Wow. That's a really wide age range for a youth flag football league. I'm sure it will work out fine, though. Good luck to your kid!

Yeah, that's what I thought before we signed him up. But, I thought he could just play, have fun, and learn a bit. I even talked with him ahead of time about not taking it too seriously and not worrying if the other kids were better. So, I was pretty surprised yesterday when he did so well.

The "great kid" part matters the most, by far.

I signed mine up this year, it's his first as well. He is very exicited about playing all he wants to do is play catch.
He won't be the fastest but will probably be the biggest. Their age group is 7-9 for flag then on up they play in pads.

I always thought it was more fun just getting together with the kids from the neighborhood and playing backyard football, no grown ups allowed. I played organized ball too but backyard ball with your friends and kin folks is much better IMO.

Signed my son up as well. He is not that big or fast, but:
his motor never quits
he has good a good football IQ
he's hard-nosed, and
he has a lunch-pail mentality.
A can't miss prospect imho.

Only if you have a really big backyard. Nicely cut open fields are the best...

But none of this will matter at the next level unless he's dominant, explosive, or special.

This shite is about as wore out as germans. Here's to you for being unoriginal and unfunny.
