Russell is the real deal. i dont know about pro's at the QB position for hi, but he can be a great college QB. Any QB that can run a 4.3 40 yard dash will be effective. Hopefully miles will use him like he used ryan perrilloux in 2007 when we won the BCS national championship. I think Russell will be a stud in college, he might be the most dominating high school player ever. He was playing against top competetion in texas and made them look like middleschoolers. For those of you who do not believe me check out his highlights on youtube.

Seen them, but I don't seem them matching what Noel Devine has.

Noel Devine was a Youtube legend...

Expectations really need to be tempered for this kid. We all hang our hats on how tough the SEC is, yet too many think Sheppard is going to come in and be Michael Vick. He's a true freshman who will have to come in and adjust to the game. I'm sure he's a phenomenal athlete, but we need to give him some time.

they are both really different, devine was more power and russell is more burning speed. Devine is very impressive, but he was a running back. Russell can throw the ball good enough, plus he has amazing break out speed. Anytime you have a QB that can run a 4.3 with a decent arm that will improve over time your going to be just fine. I guess we will see who was better in college ( what really matters ) when its all said and done between russell and noel

Calm down... Texas High School is good but it isnt the SEC. Shep will have his work cut out for him and just let him come into his own game. Time will tell but dont put all this pressure and hype on an 18 year old. Just sit back and let him get his reps and expirience and lets go from there.

Hey Hot carl you laugh but who is just no doubt 100 % better then russel in high school highlights? all those highlights look the same with every great runner, they just break out for 50 yard runs like its nothing. Russell did that and he also can throw. That is why i think it is so amazing what he did.

Im not saying he is going to come in and be great right away. He won't even start till maybe his senior year(cuz we have JJ), but he will still play and will be a stud for us over time. He will be like a percy harvin but who can also throw. I know the SEC is good and he will not just come in and dominate. THe SEC is the best conference in all of the NCAA there's no doubt. I am just saying he will be amazing in the later years.

BShark, I too am excited about RS... in my opinion he has the ability to spark our offense as a change of pace quarterback by making big plays with his feet or with his arm.

Papa purple and gold I am glad you can see where im coming from. These guys are acting like he is just an average player.

Pretty sure no one in this thread even remotely implied such.

Like JJ I hope RS lives up to the hype some people are placing on him.
They are expecting Pat White/Vick type numbers out of this kid.
Which is not going to happen seeing how he will have a limited amount of touches.
If he makes just one game changing play a game he will be a success to me.

Well I guess, but when and where did RS run a 4.3 in the forty?

texas hs football is a pipeline of quality talent for LSU, UT, Oklahoma, A&M, TT, OSU just to name a few. Shepard ran roughshod over well coached and talented 5A teams every nite of his life. Barring injury he will, IMHO, make Tiger Stadium rock like it never has before. This may be defined as hype...but it's damn good hype. Geaux.

His highlights from high school are much better than the recent top dual threat QBs(Tyrod Taylor etc) and in my opinion are better than Percy Harvins. Lache's are better running the ball but I dont think he can play QB...
