Where must someone go eat in Austin? Just moved and looking for good food/reasonably priced place

Im an out of towner, but my favorites are Rudy's BBQ, Maudies, Chuys, Trudies, definitely Guerros and one must hit up Magnolia Cafe and Kerbey Lane late night...I prefer Magnolia

Like he said Magnolia is great, better than Kirby lane but not to the locals for some reason. Chuy's, Rudy's, County Line BBQ, Hut's Hamburgers, Katz Deli (great breakfast and good sandwiches)

Thanks alot, I have been eating a whole lot of whole foods, and I tried wahoo's fish tacos and thought it was great

I like Hula Hut, Chuy's, Kerbey Lane, Cafe Mundi (serious hippie watching)....I'm sure soemone will mention Juan in a Million for breakfast tacos but there is a place at S. Congress and Oltorf that is better.

First off, when it comes to Austin, you need to learn that some places have mediocre food, but get great reviews from the masses b/c it's "austinish". I've lived here all of my life, and I know where to go and not go.
BBQ:Hard to find in Austin, I suggest City Market in Luling, and Smitty's in Lockhart. In the city, I like House Park BBQ and Rudy's. Don't go to Ruby's even though it has a brick pit. It's employees are all nasty college students who know shite about cleanliness.
Breakfast: Chez Zee, Moonshine, and La Cocina de Consuelo are my favorites. Kerbey and Magnolia are highly over rated and have very dirty kitchens.
American: Monument Cafe in Georgetown is my favorite. It reminds me of a typical Texas-Style Cafe.
Steakhouse: Perry's Steakhouse, Finn & Porter, and Fogo de Chao are the tops.
Tex-Mex: Chuy's is Austin-Style Tex-Mex and is good. My favorite cheap little tex-mex is Tamale House #3, and Enchiladas y Mas. For a taqueria I suggest going to a mexican owned taco stand. These are all over austin and here is a website to find 'em. LINK
Also, the brand new Antonios on 183(also called Research) is real good. It just opened and still has a few kinks.
Burgers: When it comes to burgers you have to ask yourself: "do I want old-school or a newer gourmet style?" For old school it's Top-Notch, Dirty Martin's, Wally's and Jalapeno Joe's. Get it classic Texas style with Mustard, Pickles, Onions, Cheese, and Lettuce. For a bigger gourmet go to Riata Bar&Grill, Phil's Ice House and Z'Tejas( Hickory Burger!)
Mexican: Fonda San Miquel, Manuels are good choices.
Thai: go to Thai Kitchen and Pad Thai.
Southern: go outside of the city. Threadgill's has been ruined by their shitty policy of making all of the food from a commissary. Hoover's is decent.
Texas influence: Moonshine, Ranch 616, Mesa Ranch are good choices.
Indian: Clay Pit, and Bombay Bistro. Good and you probably won't get sick.
Mediterranean: Phoenician Bakery, Tom's Tabooley, and Phara
Trailers: a new trend that is sweeping Austin. Lucky J's Chicken and Waffles, The Mighty Cone, Flip Happy Crepes, The Best Wurst, Torchy's Tacos, Giovanni Pizza Stand, Little Sub Trailer, and Hat Creek Burger Co. for starters.
Ice Cream: Amy's....that's it.
Pizza: Homeslice, Saccone's, and Salvation
Also, for a nice patio experience, just go somewhere witha patio and try it out. It's up to your tastes. I like Shady Grove's patio a lot.
I like to visit this LINK for ideas.

That's good and all, but you can get something just as good from a little taco trailer or stand. The Don Juan taco is an occasional eat unless you live near by.

No problem. I had a nice little flashback thinking about some of those places. If you have any question on an Austin eatery, just give me a shout out.
Also, Texas Monthly's newest edition has the Top 50 burgers in Texas, and an article about how the burger was invented in Texas. Check it out.
