In need of Fatherly advice...

I'm toying with the idea of taking my 2 yr old (3 in November) to his first LSU football game when we play ULL. He's been to most of the baseball games this past year, but I know there is a HUGE difference between The Box and Tiger Stadium. Can anyone with any experience tell me if this is a good idea?

never to young imo

My first game was when I was six years old. I was old enough to understand and root for the team. Honestly, I think 3 may be a little to young. My Uncle took his son to his first game 2 yrs ago vs ULL, he was 5.

im not a dad but i attend games with my brother and his children who are that age almost everygame... they usually tailgate with us too. we dont really ever run into any problems and fans are always more considerate when they see small children around. hopefully that helps

ULL game will be a baseball atmosphere, with the stands empty in the third quarter

Probably not. He is too young to truly enjoy it and IF he gets miserable....everyone around you will suffer until you leave.
Wait until he has a chance of actually getting something out of the experience. I applaud your involvement with him, etc...just not really the best situation IMO

My nephew took his 2 yr. old to a game. You need to take pictures and show him when he turns into a super fan.

My son is 6 and I have taken him to one game each of the past 3 years. It was tough the first year cause he could NOT carry his own beer! Seriously...avoid the heat and the really crowded games.

In all honesty, that is the perfect game for your son to go to. I've been to many games and I'll sit next to a Dad and his kid and the kid wants to leave early and fakes sick or is just not interested in the game at all. The game will be over at halftime, and if it ever gets to the point where your son is completely tired of the game then yea, test it out.
If he can make it through a UL game, by staying focused and interested, then take him to a big game like Auburn, and UF.

You'll be fine. There is alway the jackass or two that will curse up a storm or whatever but its nothing new.

My son is only a couple days younger than yours, and I took him to one baseball game this year and he spent most of the time fighting with his mom and I trying to leave the aisle until he fell asleep in the 6th inning, so I can't speak for you and your son, but my son is no where's near ready for Tiger Stadium.
I'm going to give him another year or so and try a baseball game again to test him out.

that should be fine. Above all else, make sure it isn't scorching hot. Don't promise the kid anything beforehand and watch to see what the weather is going to be like. If the temp isn't too bad and you have no problem leaving at halftime, go for it. About every 30 minutes or so, get them a drink, then later an ice cream, etc. I have been taking my 2 kids to almost every game since ages 4 and 6. They demand that we stay the whole game. I still try to not take them to the 12:30, 95 degree games.

If you like boring your little one to death, take him to a football game before he is 5 years old.
My suggestion would be to watch a football game on TV. If he is interested in that, then it would be time to take him to the stadium.

He will likely be asleep by halftime.
Wait until he is like 5. He will be passed out on the way home but during the game he will be fired up! Take him when you can and let him have fun.

I went to my first game when I was 5...big difference in times from '75 till now...I took my kids when they were 10, 7, 5, 3 and didn't have any problems even though they asked me what that smell was and I had to tell them it was whiskey...
I went to my first game when I was 5 in '75 but it was a lot easier explaining the whiskey smell then me asking my dad when I was 9 in '79 at the USC game when the students were hanging condoms out the dorms in the stadium and me asking what were those things were and my dad changing the subject quickly...

I'm told the first game I went to was LSU-Bama 82 at Legion when we beat Bryant on his last season. I was about 18 months old.

My niece is 12 and hasn't missed a home game since she was 3. She knows more about football than 1/2 the adults that sit around us.
She is the greatest Tiger Fan ever.
Start 'em early!

What is truly unfortuante is that his ticket will cost the same as yours and 4 hours is a long time for a kid to sit.

Took my 2 yr old to the ASU game in 05 and sat next to the band. He did fine, even though it was hot as frick. Tiger Stadium is louder, but the kid should be fine.

Be a true Tiger Dad.....Take him!!
Took my daughter to her first game when she was 3. Bring some things for them to play with and most kids will be fine through halftime (my daughter likes the halftime shows). As long as it's a night game, they don't typically care about the heat like adults do. Most, but not all, will be toast by the start of the 2nd half. My wife is a trooper and took her home when she pooped out. At 5 she stays for the essentially the whole game.
Oh, and you'll find that there are a lot more little ones at the "ooooh-la-la" type games, and if you're lucky, you'll have someone close enough for your kid to play with during the game.
Hardest part for me when we bring her is keeping my mouth shut....
