Terrific post. I don't know why other states don't "get" Louisiana. Most folks born in South Louisiana and have to move away, almost always come back home at some point. Why? Our politics are a mess, but so are the politicis of the Big State to the west...doesn't anyone remember the gerrymandering by some Tx politicos resulting in several legislators going AWOL to prohibit a vote on it? What about the former governor of Tx who, in a speech opposing bilingual education in Tx stated, "If English was good enough for Jesus Christ, it's good enough for the school children of Texas!" I'm sick and tired of folks putting us down when their states are just as bad...see South Carolina or Illinois. Like the poster said, Louisiana has LSU, great food, great people, and great times with family, friends, and fellow fans and did I mention we have LSU...as much as I hate the heat, the bugs, the politicians, there's no place I would rather live than Louisiana...with all its warts and shortcomings, it beats the hell out of most places. Go LSU! Go Louisiana!

From North Louisiana, I pull for the entire state proud of our heritage.

The way to a man's heart is through his stomach...this has always worked for me.
Good food is one of the components that make La special. It brings people together for Good Times.
LSU represents a part of most of the people of the state. We have had some Good Times through the success that LSU has achieved. My father and my wife's father played in the LSU band together. I met my wife at LSU. More Good Times.
When I was thinking about a name when I registered, these thoughts made it an easy choice.
It was to represent the spirit of the people of La. It is what others from around the country see in our people. While there are exceptions, they leave talking about the Good Times they had with us.
La has it's problems. Enough to cause despair. But we rally around our state school for Good Times.
I have lived in others states in my youth, and presently reside in Tennessee due to work. Wherever I proudly wear my LSU gear, people tell me about their Good Times at LSU, with the friendly people, the great food, and the passion of our fans. Some want to give ALL the credit to alcohol, but I know better, it's the spirit of Good Times in our people and our love of all things LSU.
Some of our people have been scattered out of La. But we still have our spirit with us and it sprinkles some Good Times around the country. BAM

The story behind this piece is a long one. I haven't always felt this strong connection with Louisiana, but recently (past year or so) everything has finally started making sense to me.
When I wrote that post on the site, it was done more out of anger then anything. I had already been banned on 3 different names for saying that I thought Texas would lose. During that time I constantly saw posters trashing Louisiana and saying things that I once believed to be true, but now angered me. It was 2 O'clock at night and I just kind of let my anger flow out. I took every bad thought I had ever had about Louisiana and explained why I was wrong in thinking that way. The entire thing took me about 9 or 10 minutes to write and I immediately posted it without re-reading anything. I didn't go back to look at the shaggybevo site out of frustration.
When I saw it posted on this site I was kind of glad, and at the same time kind of worried. I thought I would be bashed for mis-representing views and saying things about Louisiana when in fact I am a Texan. However, now that i have seen the response it is getting I would really like to thank everybody for their kind words. I wish more people could understand why LSU and Louisiana define what it means to truly love your alma-mater.
Thanks again and

You did a good job. My nephews were born in Louisiana, grew up in Corpus. Avid Tiger fans. You did a good job against unbelievable odds.

No. Take it either way you want it, but there are close to 4,000 views and no response. Could be good or bad.

I chose to think they didn't respond because they are ashamed of themselves. Some of their comments were overly harsh, and while likely made in the spirit of the game atmosphere, those fans knew they were inappropriate.
From a girl who has live in North Louisiana and South, and is presently in Baton Rouge taking her kids to LSU baseball camp, I thank you for those words you typed weeks ago. Very, very true about who we are.

Unfortunately I don't think they did.

Unfortunately there are a lot of very close minded people here in Texas that will say "If Texas ain't better than Louisiana, then why are all you cajuns coming here?"

The deal is they aren't just going to Texas they are going everywhere in order to find work. It is no different here than it is over there, industries are closing down and going over seas or out of the country so people have to have jobs. That is the way it is everywhere. Just to say one thing, We are Louisiana but, at the same time we all make up our great Nation. Fron the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico, from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean we are all Americans and there are 50 great states in all.

This is true to an extent, but Texas is the most convenient option and hence gets favored.

...well, at least 40.

OK, I can't merge these 2 threads together but they belong together. So, I'll just post the link here b/c it is getting lost.
