Any chance he comes back next year?
Posted on 6/16/09 at 9:13 am to Lee Chatelain
Yeah i think there is a chance... About 0.125%

If he gets a lowball offer then yes I think he comes back.

If LSU wins it all, he's 100% gone. If not, there is a very outside chance.
a million bucks plus a national championship ring. Should be a good summer for this guy.

He'd have to get really, really screwed in the draft, I think.

last year's 79th draft pick Jordy Mercer got 500k I believe

That's slightly lower then slot money for that pick, but not by much.
DJ has a ton of leverage to come back. He can name his price and is in a win/win situation.
The cubs arent afraid to spend money. Don't be suprised to see him get a mil or really close to it.

Yeah last year's pick got a signing bonus of 508k which is by no means chump change. I guess as LSU fan wanting him back Cubs lowball and say because of economy and offer 300-450 range.

they wouldn't have taken him that high if they didn't think they could sign him. being drafted in the first 5 rounds in baseball is equivalent to being a first round pick in football. you don't pass that up.

DJ has the benefit of having another leverage year next year as well. That may help him get more money this year. I'm pretty sure he's gone

Listening to Jim Hendry it sounds like they want him bad. He is gone

Until he signs dotted line I got to give him a chance to come back. Odder things have happened though

Losing DJ won't hurt quite so bad because I think we were all prepared for it. Besides, Hanover is a 2nd baseman, he'll fill in just fine.
What I wasn't ready for was Ryan Schimpf being drafted so high. Now that's a loss that's going to hurt.

What position is he projected to play with the Cubs?
