At least it seems like it. Is it because he was no longer at LSU when he passed away? Or because he wasn't quite as popular as Wally? Wally is mentioned all the time, as he should be. Johnnie's never mentioned by LSU fans. I think that should change.

He played a lot it 2000 and 2001. I think it's sad that he seems to be forgotten.

Let's always remember #31 and #8.

Weird because it's almost 4 years ago to the day. Happened about 2 miles from my house in Lake Charles. Very sad. Let's remember them both.

Believe he was coming home from work around 2 am and dozed off. Street curves and he kept going straight. I said 2 miles away. It's actually about 1/2 mile off my street. SUV was about 200 feet into cow pasture. Very disturbing sight.

I think the reason we remember wally so much more is because he died during his time at LSU while Johnnie died after he finished college...still we should pay our respects for johnnie

he was a friend of mine and my sister. VERY NICE guy, and fun to hang out and drink with. I was sad to hear about his passing. He had a pretty solid career at LSU. I agree, he should be recognized more.

RIP johnnie

b/c he didn't die while a member of the team.

One big reason why people Hank Gathers so much more than someone who dies years after their career is over.

I grew up with him, his dad and my dad coached together along time ago. It was very sad.

Also, people tend to feel more respectful to someone who dies of natural causes, (something beyond their control), as opposed to an accident that was completely in their control.
