Baylor vs Minn Thoughts

Baylor leads 2-0 top 4th...
1. Baylor looks like the more complete team through 4 early innings. I'm not sure if they are throwing their ace but they already have a guy warming.
2. Minn pitcher has a nasty pickoff move. Took him 2 or 3 times but he finally got somebody.
3. Baylor's 2-5 hitters have a nice stroke. Minn's McCallum is the only one with pop other than the O'shea. (?). Minn is more of a high average singles team and it's pitching is pretty average if not below. If this guy is their ace it's unimpressive.

Looks to me that Minn is throwing their ace and Baylor isn't. Baylor's pitching stats don't really show an "ace" but the guy the Gophers are pitching leads them in wins and has the best ERA of their weekend starters.

I don't expect LSU to lose a game. At least not until the Super Regional.

LSU rolls no matter which team they play tomorrow.

Depends on whether the opponent has a lefty that pitched at any time during the season.

Top 5...2-0 BU
Baylor's defense has also been solid but Minn looks a step slow on defense and the OF though they haven't had to move too much other than one running catch.
If there are 20 BU and 10 MN fans here I'd be surprised. Most are sitting in 211 if they are here.
I'd say there is ~2500 fans here which is impressive considering last years G2 numbers.

Only 2 runs and 4 hits through 5. It's not like he blows.

FWIW this pitcher in the Baylor pen is going to get shelled when he gets into the game. Right handed with limited movement. #36.

Minnesota has one of the better programs in the big ten. Since Michigan can't cheat anymore like they did in the 1980s they haven't been as good. Michigan did cheat. Look it up.
But you're most likely seeing parents and family and maybe some Louisiana Gopher alumni at the game.

4. Minn. seems to have no one under 6'2. Big dudes.

Baylor has had people warming for 5 innings. I think some of these guys have thrown 60 pitches.

Anybody have an idea which Baylor pitcher we might face tomorrow? If so please post some of his stats and maybe how you expect him to do tomorrow.

FYI the game is on the radio here in the twin cities on KLBB 1220AM and is being broadcast on the internet through gophersports.com. No announcers though which is kind of neat.

UM is tall and slow...Baylor's #0 is a good sport. LF...taking his licks from a drunk pretty good.

Baylor's ace is Kendal Volz (projected to be a pretty high draft pick in the preseason)
6'6 RHP 3-6 4.54 .280 B/Avg
Baylor has one LHP who has started.
Aaron Miller 3-3 5.48 .258 B/Avg
Baylor Pitching Stats
I hope we can just jump on them early tomorrow whoever they pitch.

I have a feeling we face Volz. His numbers aren't real impressive. I doubt they throw the lefty. I like the match up of Renaudo vs Volz. The Tiger bats can't wait til the 7th to start jumpin on these guys.

Basically, having attended the game, I came impressed by Baylor but they don't have LSU's caliber of pitching. They seemed to be straight fastball hitting team but overall is average. They had some trouble picking up Minn pitchers offspeed pitches.
After watching the way Baylor warmed their arms in the pen, I wouldnt put it past them to throw 3 or 4 pitchers at LSU tomorrow if it stays relatively close past the 3rd or 4th inning.
Game was nuts and bolts...Minn is either vastly overrated or overcome by the humidity and atmosphere (though Alex Box was barely half full).
Baylor will put up a fight tomorrow.
