re: The Chad Jones hit

True. The last touchdown catch by Arkansas, Riley hit the receiver helmet-to-helmet. Why wasn't that a penalty? Jones lead with his shoulder and made contact first with his shoulder.

The AP poll does that every year. I mean come-on, Oregon St. didn't even play and moved up 3 spots!!!

And I would take 2 of those qbs ahead of Jefferson (Mallet and due from Boise St.)

If I am understanding your post, you said being dominated by Auburn, Bama, and Ole Miss outweighs the close game against Florida. I will give you Bama and Ole Miss, but Arkansas beat Auburn(44-23) and totally dominated that game.

I like how the bama fans keep saying his right foot was out. His freakin left foot was in. The zebras blew it.
The penalties last 3 yrs vs BAMA: LSU 38 - Bama 14 :banghead:

Hey GOBAMA90, nice try with that pic. We're talking about this year's game not last year (Helm or Johnson aren't playing this yr.).
Bama rushes it 37 times and doesn't get 1 single freakin holding penalty.
The Jefferson spot on the 1st drive and the double standard on the PI calls were ridiculous.

CS was worn down at the end of last year. KW didn't have a problem running on Arkansas (7-45 6.6 avg) GT (5-42 8.4 avg). What the hell do you want from a QB? JJ is 3rd in the SEC in pass effic. The problem is the middle of the line getting their butts whipped. He's completing over 63% of his passes. LSU is 2nd to last in passing attempts (25 attempts/game) just behind UF.
Also, what makes you think teams won't continue putting 8 in the box with JL in the game. They did in last year. Alabama has 8 men in the box last year but the OL and Quinn were moving them off the line. It's the OL and Crowton/Miles trying to run CS right up Hebert's butt.

Out of 25 first half plays vs UF. JJ threw it 8 times (6-8 56 yards 1 INT). JJ wasn't sacked and scrambled only once out of those 25 plays.
Where is the balance? Only a total of 9 passing plays out of 25 and 3 of them were on 3rd down and only 1 of those passes were thrown over 15 yards (26 yarder to LaFell).
How hard is it to call a defense against this type of offense? Put all players within 10 yards and you're going to stop it.

re: the deep ball

Let's take a look at those 20 completions.
4 of the passes were for negative yards which you can't blame on J.J. He's just running the play called. He has 8.5 ypc when you take those away and that's not even counting the two passes he completed to the RB out of the backfield for a whopping 5 yards. The playcalling and field conditions really handcuffed him. He had two bad passes all night (the one to LaFell and the overthrow to Mitchell).

The deep ball isn't J.J. specialty but he's not that bad. How many deep balls did J.L. complete last year? His longest pass of the season was to Keiland in the flat that he took to the house.
Ole Miss - (1st pass) a 35 yard bomb down the sideline to LaFell in the air.
Arkansas game - deep pass off the fingertips of Byrd (pass interference call); completed 20-yard pass to Byrd across the middle; 20+-yd pass to Johnson who fell down (should have scored) 32-yard TD to LaFell.
GT game - long bomb to LaFell that was called back was a perfect throw.
Washington - longest pass through the air was 15 yards.
Vanderbilt - 1st incompletion to Lafell and overthrow to Mitchell (bad pass); Pass in the endzone to Toliver was decent (could have been caught if he didn't jump eariler); endzone pass to Peterson (covered by the CB).

re: Baylor vs Minn Thoughts

Baylor's ace is Kendal Volz (projected to be a pretty high draft pick in the preseason)
6'6 RHP 3-6 4.54 .280 B/Avg
Baylor has one LHP who has started.
Aaron Miller 3-3 5.48 .258 B/Avg
Baylor Pitching Stats
I hope we can just jump on them early tomorrow whoever they pitch. :geauxtigers:

I'm hoping we can just get better each game and I think someone else said the team needs to get more confidence at the plate against LHP.
Here's the same lineup against RHP:
LeMahieu 44-136 .324
Schimpf 49-132 .371
Dean 37-123 .301
Gibbs 32-111 .288
Mahtook 30-91 .330
Ochinko 39-119 .328
Hanover 46-124 .371
Mitchell 41-111 .369
Nola 12-53 .226
Totals. 330-1000 .330

Hitting vs LHP
Posted by tigerfan80 on 5/29/09 at 7:20 pm
I got bored looking at the scores from other regional games so I went back and looked at the batting against LHP. I was only able to get the AB from todays starters (don't have Landry and others)
After today's game (from gametracker):
LeMahieu 35-96 .365
Schimpf 25-91 .274
Dean 25-91 .357
Gibbs 22-83 .265
Mahtook 20-62 .323
Ochinko 28-83 .337
Hanover 17-75 .227
Mitchell 20-77 .260
Nola 8-34 .235
Totals... 210-699 .300
The avg will probably go down pretty good when you include Landry's ABs but .300 could be better but isn't terrible. The one I'm surprised with his Hanover's avg. I know some of yall wanted to know Mitchell's and some others so I hope this helps.

Yea but at .174/.271 (SEC play). Even for a 9 hole hitter you need better production. I know Nola wasn't the only one going 0fer yesterday but we lost to Vandy because we couldn't score. I know he's just a freshman and I have no doubt about him improving but right now I think we need another hitter in the lineup and I just don't see it right now with Nola.
Possible pitching matchup tomorrow

I know the sc/vandy game isn't over yet but if it stays in vandy's favor. I wanted to see what yall thoughts on the possible sc starter.
It looks like it's probably going to be between two pitchers we defeated during the season.
Westmoreland (4-2 4.40) / Blecher (4-3 4.99)
Both are LHP :banghead:
Hopefully we can repeat what we did eariler in the season. :geauxtigers:

Yea, Helenihi only has 12 at bats when you include today. Nola has 46. I agree with you that we are in no way doomed with Nola playing ss. He battles at the plate and will get a timely hit like he did a msu. He's just too inconsistent imho. I guess I would just like to see Landry and Helenihi get some more ABs since they have come on strong as of late.

Here are some SEC stats that I found that may give a different perspective on things.
(from secsports.com)
stats include SEC tournament
SEC games AVG OB% RBI GP-GS
Nola .174 .271 6 17-14
Ochinko .277 .363 13 28-27
Helenihi .381 .435 6 12-4
Hanover .311 .366 22 31-31
I was with those who said Helenihi should be benched eariler on but he is hitting much better the last few games he's played in. Nola is a good defensive player but LeMahieu isn't that far off. You can't play someone who's hitting that low no matter how good he may be on defense.
