Obviously they were going for a sports star who died way before his prime. Bias has really good name recognition.
I like the idea, but a reference to Barbaro winning the triple crown would have been a better reference IMO.

They should have had something that we really know would never happen like, "Ole Miss wins BCS title."

Not even close to as good a reference. Bias not dieing of an overdose conceivably alters the course of NBA and sports history dramatically:
