Phillip Menou...does anyone know if this kid is a Jr or Sr and if he has signed with a college yet? He pitched a good game Saturday against Holy Cross, only gave up a couple of hits and struck out a bunch. Pretty tall, maybe 6'4" lefty and seemed to be in the low 90s on his fastball, with a couple of other pitches mixed in...had good location as he was hitting the outside corner regularly.

He got a couple of hits Saturday, and an RBI sac fly...the one thing that I disliked was that they played at Mel Ott (HC's home field right now) and on his last at bat, an HC fan hollered to the team "Please get this guy out", meaning that he was hurting HC on the mound as well as at the plate. Well, the guy hits a fly to CF for the RBI sac fly and then on returning to the dugout makes it a point to come all the around to the 1st base side stands and clap his hands to the crowd, an arrogant and classless move, but Sam Houston has what appears to be a good team. They used the small ball to put the pressure on HC defense and it worked.

i agree with what you said...i can't stand it when high school kids do that kind of thing

why can't the game just be played?

SH SHOULD win it all this year, but only time will tell...

he's real good, but did you notice how much his velocity dropped after the 3rd inning? it was amazing. i'm guessing that's one of the prime reasons he isnt going big time D1, but nonetheless still a very good player.

Have ya'll not been reading the threads on Zach Von Rosenburg? Not saying Sam Houston can't win, but you obviously don't follow 4A baseball if you are labeling Sam Houston as the "should win" team.

Sam houston is going to have to get by Tioga first. SH is definately the favorite, but its high school base ball and Tioga can beat anybody. Tioga has a very good team and has a great starting lefty who no hit Eunice early in the season, who they play tonight to get to SH.

If you are going to quote someone make sure it’s accurate. What the Fan from Holy Cross said was “Come on (the pitchers #, 37 I think) Strike this long lanky bastard out” Menou did not appreciate the fact that this guy was questioning whether or not his parents are married. And this does not excuse his reaction. Menou has always been very cool and never shows emotion like this. But this time a little “swagger” came out. While I don’t condone it I probably would have done something worse.

Phillip Menou is a very good pitcher. He just struggles at time with his control. He will have to adjust or he will get lit up at that cracker jack ball park at Tech. It would be awesome to see him and ZVR go head-to-head.

Bronco2, where you at the game? Just curious, as I was sitting withing 20 feet of the HC fan that hollered out, and had my 9 year old with me and did not hear the word bastard said...and there were a bunch of kids in the stands as well. If said fan hollered out the word bastard, I am quite sure that the Headmaster of HC (who was sitting a few rows behind said fan) would have intervened and told that fan to not use such language...

Yes I was there. When Menou heard the comment He stepped back and turned and looked into the stands and then heard “Yeah I’m talking to you”. The stands were packed with fans .(could have been more than one person making a comment?) All in all a great atmosphere and contest. Other than this one guy, Holy Cross was a gracious an accommodating Host. The coaches and players were competitors and sportsmanlike. Menou should not have made the detour around home plate. “Yeah I’m talking to you” made it personal and Menou overreacted, He hasn’t done it before and I doubt He will do it again.

Sam Houston vs Eunice tonight at 7 pm in Shreveport. 4A Semi-Final.

Live Audio

Here is the live audio streaming of the game. I'm guessing the stream will start around game time tonight. I got the link from kenramsey.com.
