Playoff would be bad for the SEC. That is what we play for, not the MNC. Win the SEC (or die trying), then see where you are when the smoke clears. I dislike the fact that you could be left out of Atlanta but be in the playoffs. You could almost rest players at the end of SEC play if you had a spot clinched. Just bad for conference play all around. The prize is in Atlanta, every year. Let's not forget. I say go back to bowl games on New Years, with tie-ins, and let whoever wants to vote on a champion knock themselves out. Football is a regional sport, and so are championships.

Gaston, I almost agree with you. Go back to the bowl tie-ins and then have a four team playoff.

If a playoff system had been in place starting in 2006, it would have been possible for two SEC teams to play for the BCS title.

LSU could very well have met Florida in 2006 instead of Ohio State. And UGA could very well have replaced the Buckeyes in 2007.

As it is, I don't see any way two teams from the SEC will ever meet in the title game. And I see that as a problem.

You would have to win your conference to get in the playoffs. Obviously. This is not an issue.

quote:

First of all, how do you decide which teams get in? Are we talking about the top 4 teams or the top 8 teams? What about the 5th and the 9th who might be .0001 points behind the 4th or 8th place teams? Computer formulas will still be used to calculate which teams get in; they have to be. Coaches poll is so damn stupid: coaches don't watch every damn game to determine who's the better teams. Sportswriters are biased. West Coast Press sucks West Coast Team Dicks. ESPN sucks USC dick.

You have an 8 team playoff. You take the 6 BCS conference champs and 2 non BCS conference champs.

No formulas. No unfairness. No press. No advertising.

Conference champions only.

quote:

Secondly, how much money do the fans have? Can you afford to take off of work and travel to see your team play in the playoffs for 3 games? If not, do you go to the first game only and not the others? Do you wait to see if your team wins the first round before traveling? What if they lose? How many people would make that decision? This does not bode well for teams with strong fan bases that follow the team, i.e. the SEC.

First, they do it is basketball.

Second you can watch it on tv. The tv revenue from this would be massive.

Third, they could have the first game at the higher seeded teams stadium if needed.

quote:

There's always going to be controversy, just deal with it

Why? There is minimal controversy in the basketball tourny. If you have an 8 team playoff, a team left out would have very little reason to cry. The necessary things to get into the playoffs are pretty clear.

A playoff system would minimize the controversy.

quote:

Regular season is the playoff

It is an insufficient playoff obviously. That is why we need a true playoff.

quote:

Leave it alone! I can't afford to go to 3 playoff games. This is not basketball with 2000 fans traveling to the NCAA regionals with 2 games in one building. This is 30000 fans trying to go to Miami, then Dallas, then Atlanta. It will never work.

Those who could go would go. Those that couldn't go would watch it on tv. Kinda like now. What is the big deal?

quote:

The only thing I have against a play off would be when in ends up three sec teams in it, we end up having to play eachother again to advance.

It couldn't happen. You have to win your conference.

quote:

You can't say it is magnified at all. Generally you have what...3 teams, 4 tops arguing for the 2 spots. You open it up to 4 or 8 and you have more teams arguing. There are always more 1-loss teams than there are 2-loss teams (obviously). So instead of having 4 teams vying for 2 spots you will have 10-15 teams shooting for 8 and considering they will have at most 2 losses, the argument becomes harder to make.

Not necessary. Win your conference or don't play. Easy. No controversy.

And this adds to the importance of the whole regular season. You have to win your conference.

No controversy. Just win and move one. That is how it should be.
