I set mine to record 15 minutes over for this very reason. I learned my lesson with The Unit during football season.

They actually revealed it? Right before she said the name, it cut from HD to SD and the local news started.

I forget if it was the woman or the guy that was standing still. The observer walks behind that person in the scene. It's very quick. I only noticed it because of the bald head

Yea, I don't think it was AI that screwed it up this week. I set the DVR to record 15 minutes longer and the same thing happened to me.

He's the bald guy that's been in every episode of the show. They never really give a good explanation of what he's doing except that he "observes" all that is going on pertaining to the "pattern".

There was a previous episode that explained his character a little bit. You might want to take a look at the episode online. The previous poster did pretty much some up what we know about him though.

Wow. I missed the first few episodes, so I never even knew about all of this "observer" business. I'll have to go back and watch the entire season on DVD once it has concluded.
On another note, after some digging (watched the end of the episode on Hulu), the name that was cut off was, as another poster noted, William Bell (Leonard Nimoy), founder of Massive Dynamic.
