I've got 150 Amazon bucks, and I want to spend it all on good Louisiana/LSU books or books about SEC football or football in the South generally. I know I am going to buy Fonville Winans' Louisiana. Any other suggestions?

Really? I was thinking about that one. Does it have lots of old photos?

It has photos, stories and small-size reproductions of game rosters, tickets, program covers, etc.

Even if you don't like to do a lot of reading, it's a great book; about 1/3 text and 2/3 pics and other things.

Just finished Pistol: The Life of Pete Maravich. Very good biography.

Good coffee table book is "Under Stately Oaks"
Its a pictorial history of LSU with the general history of the school.

"Lee's Tigers" by Terry L. Jones is one I plan on reading soon about soldiers from Louisiana that fought in Lee's Northern Virginia army during the Civil War. The same soldiers LSU's mascot is named after. Sounds really interesting to me.

Hope that helps.

That one is pretty good too.

Some people like "it never rains in tiger stadium" but it was a little too weird for me.

I've heard mixed reviews on that one as well.

Does anyone know if A Tailgaters Guide to SEC Football is any good?

It is, if it's been updated. I have one that came out in 1991 or '92.

The Life of Pete Maravich
Lee's Tigers
It Never Rains in Tiger Stadium

Can't go wrong with any of these.

Should add "A Conferacy of Dunces" published by LSU press. It is about New Orleans but he does try to get to LSU once. He threw up and had to go back home.

I met Mr. Jones a couple of years ago on a trip he made to Pensacola to discuss his book. If your a civil war buff and the connections of the "LA Tigers" to the Civil War are of interest to you, you will find the book very informative.

I fully enjoyed the "Tailgaters Guide to the SEC" It covers all the traditions of all SEC schools as well as some cool looking receipes for the tailgate party.

If you get a chance, read "Sacked" by Bob Broadhead ... details some really fricked up stuff that went on during the '80s.

'It Never Rains in Tiger Stadium' was good but it's not as much about football as one would expect it to be.

Don't waste your Amazon bucks on LSU Vault. You can get it for about $25 at Wal-Mart.

"Heir to a Dream", Maravich autobiography is great, the best LSU book I have read.

"Never Rains..." is also a great book.

"The Perfect Season" by Bud Johnson, really good. Buy it at the hotel gift shop on campus, bring it to Andonie Museum and get Bud to sign it for you.
