Cross-posted on another blawg which I am not allowed to mention here:

Mitchell to Centerfield
Mahtook and Jones in the corner outfield spots (likely with Jones in left).

Leon Landry had an incredible first couple of weeks with several homers, but I’m starting to think that was a fluke or a hot streak that can’t be repeated. He’s not as good of a defensive centerfielder as is generally assumed, and he's 7/12 on steals, suggesting he’s not as good of a baserunner as is generally assumed. Jones’ early season numbers are good enough that he should be given a chance to take over that spot.

Landry will still be valuable as a pinch runner for the Blake Deans of the world, or can replace Mahtook in the eighth or ninth to give us a hellaciously fast outfield.

Than maybe Leon stays as a pinch runner only (although McGhee kind of has that spot right now). He's got the lowest on base % of any regular on the team, including folks like Austin Nola, Buzzy Haydel, and Nick Pontiff.

And I think Landry's high home run numbers are largely a fluke, especially when you consider that he only has three doubles(!). A 3:1 home run to doubles ratio is way out of whack, especially for someone as fast as he is.

how can you say that about landry
i think the coach knows best and i think he will leave his outfield alone.
unless someone out thier gets hurt chad jones will be a pinch runner or a replacement in romps
just my thought though
and i am not the coach by any means
all i can say is lets just see what happens

right now i dont think chad jones is better than leon landry

i know i will get burnt by my say this but ol well
thanks in advance

So in order of fastest would it be:

Mitchell
Mahtook
McGhee
Jones
Landry?

or is McGhee slower than Landry and Jones?

He's at .353.

Hannover who's having a great season is at .360, and Gibbs is at .368. Just saying, it isn't that bad. Hannover doesn't walk. So yeah he's hitting .083 better than Landry but on base percentage isn't the place to make an argument.

Hanover isn't really relevant because he's not competing with Landry for up an outfield spot, he plays third base. (For that matter Austin Nola and Buzzy Haydel aren't relevant either; I used them as "for examples").

The point is, Chad Jones it getting on base at a much better clip than Landry. True Jones has limited at bats, but I think his performance so far warrants a closer look.

I used OBP as a measuring stick because Landry is a supposed leadoff guy who is stuck batting 8th because he can't get his on base percentage up.

Helenihi is close to being as fast if not faster than McGhee

Whoa Whoa Whoa... Do yall remember how Chad Jones got on base? Leon is in a slump but Chad's BA is a bunch of smoke and mirrors. He was never consistent other than accidently making contact on a few of his horrid swings. Let along Chad was NOT good in the outfield or at baserunning. Or maybe its been so long since he played you forgot coach benched him for stupidly running us out of the inning. As bad as Sanchez is directing runners putting CJ and Sanchez together = 1 easy out on the base path.

I agree. Its nothing against Chad...obviously he is a freakish athlete but he needs to focus and football. Our outfield is crowded and he would be better suited to focus on what will be a phenominal football career

There is no doubt that the two fastest people on the team is Jared first then Mikie. Chad, Leon and the rest all have real good speed and quickness but not the same as Jared and Mikie.

I think if CJ fixed his swing and had more focus on baseball he would be a great talent.. But he doesnt have the focus playing two sports so lets bring in a guy that will play baseball. The new rule shorting us players means too much.
