i seen a post about this earlier.our asst.coaches arent getting it done.we have a championship team.but they are playing bad, even at 25-9.coleman very well could win tomorrow.our hitting sucks.the freshmen have been doing just as good.we have 2 good starters.no middle relief and a good closer.i think it goes back to the asst.coaches.ive been dodging this because i thought we would come around but its getting to the point where you would like some middle relief and a team capable of 320.im sorry ,just ranting on what im seeing.if we win tomorrow its 26-9 so it could be worse.

Dude you can't even compare the importance of coaching in baseball to the coaching in football.

Football coaches means a ton in FB. Baseball coaches basically need to keep guys focused and give minor tips to get slumping players back on track. The amount of prep time required for FB vs BB is night and day...

Right - there's no need whatsoever for baseball managers / coaches to know such things as how the opposing team's pitchers throw, their hitting tendencies, how many righties / lefties in their lineup, how often they hit and run. or steal bases.

Nah, none of that matters = just lay back, watch the game, take a trip to the mound occasionally if a pitcher's struggling.

Good thing that you're not the AD at LSU. Smoke would be our baseball coach, Brady would still be running the basketball program into the ground and we'd likely still have Curley Hallman as our football coach.

Dude, you obviousley have never been a talented baseball player. The swing can have so many mechanical hitches, it can be the difference between hitting .200 and hitting .320. A good eye and technical teaching from coaches are key. The pitcher's release point can change by a fraction and cause serious problems.

You realize Tiger Woods has a swing coach? Baseball coaches are about more than focus and motivation.

After watching yesterdays game it was very obvious Bama's hitters were much more disiplined at the plate and on the basepads. Also the pitch selection in 0-2 counts seemed to be much different.LSU chose to split the plate while Bama worked off the plate. This all has been an ongoing problem and hopefully will be solved before regionals.

Dude, seriously?? Comparing the designing of complex offensive and defensive schemes to helping a batter or pitcher tweak their approach at the plate or on the mound is ridiculous....

These kids learned how to play baseball 10-15 years ago. Its not that complicated knowing baseball strategy...

Post makes absolutely no sense. I was implying that the amount of time and planning that goes into a football game plan is mind boggling compared to a baseball game plan. Poor coaching in football can cause a bunch of great players to fail miserably; whereas, poor coaching in baseball is NOT that devastating to the game.

Smoke's biggest issue was that he was a POOR evaluator of talent signing tons of guys that were NEVER going to step foot on the field at LSU>

its also going to be harder to dominate with the new scholarship limits, but being 1 game out of the SEC lead is truly unacceptable, especially having already played the meat of our SEC schedule

I would have agreed with this in February but Grewe has been doing just fine.

eta: But I do think you could say at this point that not hiring a proven hitting coach was a mistake.

Exactly. I don't think people understand that this is not football. You don't have to win every single game. It's actually nearly impossible to do. We have played the brunt of our SEC schedule so far. If we win the series today and take care of business the next few weekends we are going to be just fine.
