“If my arm falls off and we win the national championship and I go out and get a real job, so be it. I’m not worried about my arm so much as I am about winning the national championship.”
This is a quote from the scheduled Saturday starter

Seems to me that it's more about the experience for him than the money (obviously since he elected to come back this year), which is refreshing. He has his priorities in order and because of that, will be blessed for it (just my opinion). Geaux Louis!!

Apparently his arm feels fine cause if he ever had a rotator cuff or something else he might not say that.

Good to see athletes admit that sports players do not actually have real jobs.

Somebody needs to tell him to rethink this I believe. I'm as much for the tigers winning the NC as anybody but I'd hate to see this kid who obviously has a ton of heart ruin his career bc he is being overthrown.
That being said, he has only really be used to the extreme one weekend (UK) so I'm not that worried about him right now as long as he says he's healthy.

I admire the hell out of him for saying that.
Now, it's up to Mainieri and the pitching coach not to let that happen. A pitcher can hurt his arm at any time, but a career doesn't have to be sacrificed by throwing a guy way too much.
That was done to Kerry Wood in HS, and it has kept him from being anywhere close to the pitcher he could've been. That should never happen.

Agreed. Look, you don't want your coach to develop the reputation as a career killer. I think every pitcher should want the ball. I also believ its the coach's responsibility to take the guy out when the pitcher is tired and his mechanics start to suffer, because that's when injuries are more likely to happen.
Bertman actually had a pretty bad rep for killing pitchers (McDonald, Sirotka) though it was in an era before MLB clubs were as sensitive to the issue and it's always been a dispute how much of their arm trouble was attributable to abuse in college. Now, I can't imagine any pitcher with pro aspirations going to, say, Rice.
Throwing out your arm is bad for the pitcher, and its bad for LSU longterm.
But I do love that Coleman thinks this.

Well said. You want a player to have that attitude, but it is up to the coach to protect him.
Attitudes like that are why I love college sports.
