I have friends that have either graduated from or currently attend every law school in Louisiana. My friends that attended Loyola all enjoyed it. My understanding from everyone is that LSU is the most rigorous by far of all of the law schools but you can get a good education at any of them depending on what you put into it.

The caveat to this is, there are a lot of N.O. firms (and probably many in other parts of the state) who will interview students from Loyola, but won't consider those from SULC.
I'm not offering a comment on the relative merits of either school, just on the perception that I know of for a fact, which, for better or worse, is ultimately pretty damn important when looking for a job.

This is my advice, with one minor exception. It's ok to go to Loyola if you get a good scholarship, and you know you never want to leave New Orleans. IMO Loyola is not worth it at full price; if the best deal you get is Loyola with no scholarship, don't go to law school.
So in summation:
Tulane: ok to go; ok to pay full price
LSU: ok to go; ok to pay full price if you never want to leave Louisiana or Texas.
Loyola: ok to go with scholarship if you never want to leave NOLA
Southern: ok to go with scholarship if you have a guaranteed job coming out and all you need is any JD.

I think that's on the cusp for LSU (although my info is a couple years out of date).
For the Loyola scholarship offer, make sure it is for all three years and not for just the first year. Some schools do this to get you in the door, then raise the price on you in year two. Same if it has a strict requirement to maintain the scholarship (like you have to stay in the top 10% of the class).

There is a great site to check out that gives numbers on applicants to every law school. I myself am taking the LSAT in june and will be trying to get in Fall 2010 somewhere Loyola, LSU, Tulane, somewhere local. The site is lawschoolnumbers.com, it gives you info on the schools, and also gpa's and LSAT scores of the members of their site.

3.5/155 is borderline.
Like other applicants have said, are you a minority? As it pains me to say it, if you are, that'll get you a full ride at LSU. If you're white, off hand you're looking at about a 20% shot.
Other shite factors in too, but race, LSAT, and GPA are 98%

Might be more trouble than it's worth.
My advise as an LSU grad is to not go to Law School. there are much easier ways to make a living and I know plenty of '08 LSU Law grads who cannot find a job even in louisiana.

actually LSU doesnt allow transfers from southern. Not sure about the other schools.
LSU will start allowing transfers from southern next year (ie, please send us some black people so the ABA will get off our nuts)

My take on the OP: Loyola is worth it IF you can do very well AND if you want to stay in New Orleans. Otherwise, wait to hear from LSU. It's generally just not worth the expense.
That said, funny thing is that the only Louisiana law school graduate at my firm nationally is a partner who went to Loyola and then clerked for the LA supreme court. So go figure.

I've got a shitload of debt coming out of LSU, enough to where I couldn't afford a job in the public sector. I cant imagine having 120k in loans fighting for the same jobs like loyola grads. That kind of debt is some serious handcuffing.

Not really. Firms hire first years primarily from their summer associate programs, and will continue doing so. He'll just be competing with his fellow 2Ls for those positions, not the students who graduated a year or two earlier.
