Anthony Ranaudo will be a beast all year. His game against Kentucky was brilliant, just left in a little too long.

Hard to believe those were the two best pitchers we might face all year. But it could well be. They were awesome.

Yeah our lineup clearly stunk it up before the series.

While strikeouts by a batter are a good predictor of their long term succes or failure, striking out a bunch has no correlation with scoring runs.
Strikeouts feel more frustrating watching. But when you run the numbers, their impact is pretty much nil.

Yes, I do know about copy & paste; however, he did take the time to look them up. No need to be an a$$. BTW - I'm a dudette.

for a leadoff man? I highly doubt this.
Posted on 3/16/09 at 5:44 pm to TortiousTiger
The big question for a leadoff hitter is walks. Of course, that's true for all hitters. If everybody avoids an out, then you score an infinite amount of runs.
But getting on base is a particular key for a leadoff hitter. Getting on, setting the table, etc.
But it doesn't really matter how the leadoff hitter makes his outs (it matters slightly more for hitters later down).

with that reasoning, leon landry has the same odds of running out a ground ball as Ryan Clark.
ETA: you're assuming that because he didnt strikeout, he will be called out in some other manner and the amount of outs will remain the same.

This is Major League data (so SEC data) will vary. The almost horizontal line shows that teams who strike out a lot score no more or no less runs than teams that don't strike out all that much.

I agree. If a leadoff hitter strikes out, flies, out, drops a deuce on home plate and is callled out...it doesn't really matter. They are all outs.
OBP for my leadoff hitter, and success rate with SBs, is going to be what I look at the most.
