Is it possible that current audiences would find the concept of a British superspy unbelievable considering the degraded status of the UK today?

If they were doing the UK of today, they would need to use up 50% of the movie explaining how everything that they are doing is "carbon neutral" and "inclusive."

I doubt it. Consider that a year or so after the first Bond movie was released, Kim Philby, the head of MI6s Soviet counter espionage unit, defected to the USSR and was exposed as having been a spy for the Russians for decades. If that didn't put a damper on Bond, nothing will. The cold war exposed the British intelligence community as being lousy with spies, leaks and general incompetence and yet, that period was peak for Bond films.

One of the reasons Fleming created Bond in the first place was to supply Britain w/a fantasy hero to make up for her vanished empire and downgraded interntational status.

It's no accident that Bond is the alpha male, not Felix Leiter the CIA agent.

Probably should set a movie in the past when Britain was a serious place

Someone else on this board has mentioned it, but I'd love Pearce Brosnan as Old Man Bond who has to come out of retirement and helps to smuggle away/disarm a nuclear Britain as the UK falls to Civil War amid an Islamist takeover of Parliament.

In a currently woke UK, a tough and ruthless Bond would have to be an agent for a massive, global, and independent financial entity.

I'm just shocked the guy isn't wearing a towel on his head, banging other dudes and is trying to save the planet from whiteness yet.

That was already a problem with the Craig movies. At this time, it's absurd that the UK could project power even via a single man like Bond.

I’m repeating what I say in all these Bond threads.

The next Bond needs to be a serial series and a Cold War period piece. And Amazon needs to recognize that their target audience is over 40.

Overheard at Hollywood Video on FL Blvd, c.2000:

Aren't two of the actors rumored to be up for the role of James Bond non-white? I believe that one guy is black and the other is of Indian descent.
