I wouldn't call it a "trend." It's extremely niche. It's also not new.

Not new at all. It was not uncommon out in california when I was there in the eighties, early nineties...
Let's picture a guy that split his penis. Another one used weights to make it about three feet long, neither one functioned correctly anymore.
