I had never heard of this game before but stumbled on a review of it and it sounded intriguing so I dug a little bit more.

Esoteric Ebb is basically a streamlined Disco Elysium but set in a D&D/fantasy world. It has Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam at the moment. I've played through maybe the first hour and it is very cool/interesting/different.

Anyone else try this?

Sorry for derailing, but on the topic of Disco Elysium-likes, have you played Sovereign Syndicate?

No, I've never even heard of it. Is it good?

I haven't played it yet but the consensus seems to be that it's decent, although a little short (only 12 hours). The biggest complaint I'm seeing is that the final arc of the story is a bit anticlimactic but the characters and setting are interesting. It's on sale for $16 (normally $20) on the PlayStation store, so I might pick it up.

It's actually on sale on Steam right now too for $7.19. Reviews are mixed but it definitely looks interesting. I may pick it up and add it to my massive backlog.

I've played for maybe an hour or so, so just beginning, but so far it's great. I'm still learning a lot and there is a lot of exploration and figuring things out (very similar to Disco Elysium). My character is dumb as a box of rocks, but very wise. It's interesting to see the dialogue based on my making or failing the various checks. If you like D&D and are familiar with 5E then a lot of the gameplay is second-hand.

Awesome, thanks for the impressions! That's one of the things that I really like about this game - being familiar with D&D makes things "click" a little bit easier than it did with Disco Elysium (I still couldn't explain what half the skills in that game actually do).

Sounds like you've made it about as far as me. I'm looking forward to diving into it more this weekend!

I picked up a companion, but it's getting late and I'm not quite sure where I'm going to bed down. I'll probably look for my boss (Darren?). I had some interesting interactions with a lot of folk. The game definitely has a lot of detail in the story and dialogue options.
