Because we haven't felt real pain yet. We're fat, sedentary and rich beyond means. The poorest among us are more well-fed and taken care of than most of the civilized world. We haven't experienced what it is to have hunger physically and emotionally affecting us.

The ruling class is playing it masterfully. They'll keep us fed and entertained as long as we still have firearms. They'll false-flag a few events to declare martial law and confiscate firearms eventually and that will lead to civil war and the horrors that will come along with it.
