Yet here we are in 2026 listening to the same Simon and Garfunkel and Rolling Stones songs on our stereo FM radios instead of some crazy arse audio of the future (Bluetooth slop doesn't count).
Sometimes technology doesn't march on.

They were cut in stereo (or mono even). Each song would have to be individually reproduced with the original studio tracks. The tracks necessary for that kind of layering while still maintaining fidelity to the original mostly don’t exist, why would they have made them? Ultimately all you would get is a producer DJ’s new remix with his own original stuff thrown in, or I guess AI slop.
4, 5 and more track surround sound systems and produced cuts of all kinds of things do exist, including some music.
And then the issue of headphones. We only have 2 ears

QuadraDisc
I have a restored and working 4-channel Marantz receiver (4415), and a few QuadraDisc LPs from the mid ‘70’s.

Seems like this would have been the perfect platform for it to gain popularity.

That would be a interesting niche. This mix only sounds right in your car. Again it would have to be produced that way from the bottom up with studio tracks. Those don't exist for 60s rock n roll artists, at least not intentionally. Though some producers have created 5.1 versions of Beach Boys, Beatles albums etc I don't know how legit they can be. Either they found some outtakes that just so happen to accidentally work as a layered track, or they created new tracks. The best one I would recommend is Eye in The Sky by Alan Parsons Project because it was done by Alan Parsons himself (albeit 30 years later)
