NEW: White House denies that Pam Bondi was fired over allegations of tipping off Eric Swalwell, according to the New York Post.
The statement comes after Semafor and the Daily Mail claimed Bondi had allegedly tipped off Swalwell about plans to release files relating to his alleged relationship with a Chinese spy.
"The president has been considering this change for a long time," the source told the outlet, saying President Trump personally likes Bondi and that the firing was performance-related.
Swalwell's campaign also denies the report.
"We had no heads-up by anyone in the administration. None," Swalwell spokesperson Micah Beasley said.

It’s not really about a reformer with the law. It’s about an adversarial system with smart people challenging your positions and an entire body of law on which to compare them and decide them.
A single Executive branch official is not going to be able to “reform” much in the law. That’s by constitutional design.

There is a system of checks and balances designed by the Founders- Senate confirmation for Cabinet members being one of them.
That a feature of our system, not a flaw.
To the extent the President can’t get certain nominees through, that speaks more about the nominees or the President’s lack of political power.

Swalwell has a lot of ties to the former DC FBI office. He wouldn't need Bondi to tip him off.
