I'm not here to definitively state one way or the other whether or not Derek is ready for the next level, but is it really a stretch of the imagination to suggest coming back for his Junior season would be helpful to his long term development? Currently, "bulking up" to hit more homeruns hasn't worked out as planned, but I think he is on the right track and even appears to be faster.

Great player, brightest of futures, but does an MLB squad draft him in the early rounds this summer?

Edit: I didn't see his misplay in the outfield, however I think his defense overall has improved so I don't think it will be a trend.

I like the optimism, but I’m not sure why he’d risk an injury if he’s still projected to be a first round pick. He got to experience college life while being paid too.

It would probably cost too much NIL that we need to spread revamping the roster.

Agreed, however at this point I'm starting to wonder why an MLB team would draft a player that is IMO not physically ready when they could potentially wait a year to evaluate his development in a familiar environment. Ascending through the Minor leagues is no joke (not a hot take)

I'm not a draft expert, especially regarding the financial aspects which seem to change year to year. I just might consider another player depending on my needs as a ballclub.

I mean hell, many would consider Jake Brown the most physically gifted player on the team, but the jump he has made from Sophomore to Junior has been considerable.

I’ll say it now…Curiel will not play in the majors. The CF who preceded him is a much better player and couldn’t stay.

They draft 17 year olds who aren’t physically ready all the time. MLB drafts on projectability, not readiness. They will have no problem bringing him in and evaluating him in their own familiar minor league environment

I hate to agree with you, but this version of Curiel wouldn't bat .200 in Single A. As you said, better players than him have found out the hard way time and time again. IDK, purple colored glasses and all, but I wouldn't be super confident going straight to the minors this summer after a season that didn't really even come close to meeting expectations. Sounds like a rough alternative to being a Junior on the LSU baseball team that will most likely have a chip on their shoulder going into 2027.

However it plays out, the advice he is given will be top notch and whatever decision he makes should be made without reservations.
