Realistically, how good can you be at the big 3 at the same time?

I’m thinking of schools that would be considered championship contenders in the big 3 sports at the same time. It’s clear that’s what our push is right now. The NIL era makes this a different animal. Recent history, here are the best examples I can think of.
Florida 2005-09: 2 National titles in basketball and football, 1 appearance in baseball.
Texas 2003-06: 1 National title in football and baseball, 1 Final Four appearance
As a bonus, UF had a Heisman winner, Texas had a women’s F4 appearance.
LSU had a very nice stretch from 03-09, two football titles, 1 baseball title, 1 F4, but the basketball program has always been too inconsistent.

2009 basketball won the sec, baseball won the cws. Football was just a year removed from a national championship but coming off that funky 2008 season.

Yeah, I thought about extending that timeline for LSU, but it also included the rapid demise of men’s hoops.

stop spending too much on women's sports

I mean Tennessee 2 years ago was in the football playoffs, won the CWS, and basketball was in the Elite 8
ETA: Georgia this year in football playoffs, made NCAAt, baseball currently top 10
Virginia will end up with solid seasons in all 3 as will Texas and Texas A&M

I’m talking about contending for a natty.
Texas and Florida had legitimate shots to win all three. Nobody will mistake Georgia for anything other than a football school until they can win an NCAAT game and get to Omaha. A&M needs to try getting a TD in the CFP among other things.
Tennessee is a decent example, but it was a much shorter flash than the others.
I bring it up because we have folks expecting titles in baseball and football and Final Fours in basketball in the next 5 years. That’s almost unheard of, and that was pre NIL. I didn’t really bother to check the northern schools that prefer hockey to baseball. Either way, we have the coaches in place to do it, and it will almost certainly be a fun ride.
Hell, the list of schools that have won a title in each of the Big 3 is short, and they weren’t doing it all in one era.

I made a post on this a while back but the gist of it was that lots of schools can contend in 2 sports, a few can contend in 3, only 1 really contends in 4. Otherwise you end up in purgatory being decent but not good enough to win it all. I don't remember all the examples but Texas has all 4. LSU just needs to focus on being one that can contend in 3

That’s where NIL is different. It’s a money game. Apparently LSU has some booster cash, but there’s no way it is on the level of Texas, or even aTm, simply due to the sizes of those alumni bases. I greatly appreciate what Kim has brought to BR, and competing in 4 is better than 3…but like I said, it’s pretty much unheard of.
