From what I gather he is a perfectly fine teammate and is friendly and respectful- he just comes across as a kid who has had the joy for basketball just stripped out of the game for him. I see it in high end junior golf all the time these days - kids getting big offers but just have zero joy for the sport due to an overly critical parent or something.

I don’t care if he’s a one and done - a lot of those kids still love the sport and play with a lot of passion…. Some don’t… I mean JJ Smith loves football so does Caleb Downs and neither stayed or will sray in college longer than what was required - so I’m not on the kid for being in and out - it’s the world these days

I don’t watch a ton of college basketball but I started paying attention to him when the stories started to come out about his minutes. I assumed he was just not a good teammate but as I’ve watched and read some about him - I think he's a perfecly fine teammate - seems more like a kid who never liked the sport as much as the skills he possessed made him valuable to others.

getting burned on the last play last night also just seemed like a kid who just unintentionally goes through the motions because he’s just not hungry about basketball.

maybe people who know him or basketball better than I do can shed some light I don’t know but he just doesn’t seem like a happy kid on the court.

He's ridiculously talented but there are so many potential stars coming out of this draft that I'd hesitate to take him #1 if I'm a GM with that pick.

Whatever went on with him this season, whether it was his body not being able to handle playing so much or him preserving himself for the nba, it was just weird enough to give some red fllags.

Bill Self didn't seem to think he could count on him

He wasn’t the on-ball defender on the last play.

He had a full body cramp in September where all of his muscles tensed up so much they couldn’t even get an IV into him, and it messed with his head. He didn’t push as hard as he could fearing his body would cramp up again. He loves basketball, but college basketball wasn’t as important to him as it was to some other guys.

Now that he’s in full time prep for the NBA, I think you’ll see even more of the dynamic stuff you saw in high school but only got glimpses of this season. At his best, he’s the best player in the draft. The question will be can he sustain that over an 82 game season.

He put up great numbers at Kansas (when he played). Could just be very risk adverse and knowing hes the number 1 (or 2) pick he didnt wanna do anything to risk it.

That’s how I look at it. He pushed himself more towards the end of the year, but didn’t have the same burst that you saw when he was fully confident in his health.

The first half of the BYU game against Dybantsa showed what he can be. I would still take Dybantsa number 1 because of what he showed this year, but Peterson should be the second pick.
