And it has nothing to do with their ability as a basketball team. 13-7 big 10 record finishing 6th place and winning the tournament is not 2 seed material. Arkansas should have been minimum 3rd seed with that logic and St. John’s and whoever else. I’m sure their schedule was hard. So was auburns. Finished behind wisky in conference.

We played Duke, Houston, Michigan State, Louisville and Texas Tech on top of our SEC schedule.

But we lost to Georgia and Kentucky so the 4 was probably somewhat deserved. Still an argument for a 3 winning the SECT.

The weird thing about that is the committee the past few years seemed to have basically ignored conference tournaments for seeding. I wonder if they basically had Michigan State and Purdue slotted for 2/3 right before the selection show and flipped Purdue to a 2 when they won.

Purdue is better than you think... the seniority on this team may take them deep in the tourney.

Conference standings mean NOTHING. That has been illustrated over, and over, and over again. In fact, the standings don't even appear on the Team Sheets used by the committee.

What matters most? Wins over top competition (other NCAA Tournament teams) and wins AWAY from home.

Purdue is 9th in NET. They have 11 wins over Q1 opponents. The only teams who have more are Duke, Michigan, Arizona, Florida...all No. 1 seeds. Purdue's record away from home is 11-3. Compare that to Arkansas who is 10-7 in such games. Purdue also has the 3 best SOS

By the metrics used by the committee, Purdue has the resume of a No. 2 seed

Yeah, let's just throw away how teams from the same conference stack up against one another over a 16 - 18 game schedule.

St. John's - Big East Regular Season Champ as well as Conference Tournament Champ... 5 seed.

UConn - Regular Season Big East Runner Up, as well as Conference Tournament runner up... 2 seed.

Oh, I guess head to head matters more... St John's 2 wins to 1 loss against UConn.

Karma is ark now gets a 12 seed for a sweet 16 bid. And if they beat Arizona (very unlikely) they’ll likely get to go heads up against Purdue

It's Purdue, they'll find a way to lose next weekend.

Purdue has a higher strength of schedule, Kenpom ranking, and NET ranking.

It’s not complicated

The committee's position is they look at the season as a whole, without placing greater emphasis on conference play. The goal is to encourage teams to play tough out of conference opponents and reward them for beating tough OOC opponents, rather than encourage teams to play nobody in the non-conf. schedule and just hope to finish better than other teams in the conference standings. It's a big reason why you see the best teams play one another in the non-conf. schedule as opposed to football (and baseball) where the non-conf. schedule is virtually meaningless.

UConn beat BYU, Illinois, Kanas, Florida, and Texas outside of Big East play.

St. John's lost to Alabama, Iowa St, Auburn, Kentucky. Their best win outside of the Big East was over Baylor who went 15-16.
