Scottie Pippen's "Mailman don't deliver on Sunday" line to Karl Malone when Malone was shooting free throws to take the lead late in a Finals game was a classic. Malone missed them both and the Bulls beat Utah at the buzzer.

Back when I could ball, I would just let my fadeaway jumper Dirk style and my And 1 sleeveless shirts speak for me...

The Larry Bird Chuck Person Merry Christmas story

quote:

It was never wise to talk trash to Larry Bird, especially for players who couldn’t back it up. The Boston Celtics legend was unstoppable in a war of words as he was on the court. But that didn’t stop Chuck Person from trying to intimidate Bird during the matchup between the Celtics and Indiana Pacers the day after Christmas in 1990.

quote:

Person, who was nicknamed “The Rifleman,” sent a message to Larry before tip-off, saying he was going on a hunting trip that evening. The former Pacers star probably should have kept his thoughts to himself, as Bird had the perfect gift for him, which coach Bob Hill once talked about.

quote:

“To start the second half, Boston was shooting on our end of the court,” Hill said. “I was standing right around halfcourt, and they ran a simple pin down for Larry. He caught the ball, turned, and shot it. Chuck was on the bench. When Larry went up to shoot, he said, ‘Merry fu*king Christmas, Chuck!'” “As he shot it, he said that, turned and ran down the court, and he swished it. I laughed, our whole bench laughed, and I think Chuck even laughed,” Bob added.

Larry Bird bursting into the allstar locker room for the 3 point contest, pointing out why each dude wasn’t going to win, asking “so who’s coming in second” then winning while still in the warm up jacket
