Is there any animosity towards Southern Miss from the SEC Mississippi schools?.. or are they mostly an afterthought?

100%. Southern Miss folks hate Ole Miss/State because we were never really allowed to become more than a teacher college due to state legislature.
I’m not really sure why Ole Miss or State would have a reason to hate USM outside of State pride

Both have become pretty good rivals for USM in baseball. Back in the Bower days when they were routinely pulling Top 25 upsets, a lot of USM used to talk smack that they were as good or better than State or Ole Miss. But USM football has sadly become irrelevant

Idk, but all I got is one time I went to an Ole Miss fan’s house and he had a Miss State decal inside his toilet bowl.

From an outsider looking in, it's the USL (UL-Lafayette), wanting to be at the table. So, no there isn't a rivalry with little sister USM

Well, in baseball, USM is clearly “at the table”

Southern’s fans have a weird inferiority complex about them. There’s definitely somewhat of a rivalry dynamic in baseball as they have had a really good baseball program for the last 20+ years. Ole Miss refuses to even play them in football, which adds to the inferiority complex

The dynamic between the directional or hyphenated schools with the larger schools is an interesting dynamic in most states. Some of the smaller schools root for the big state school and some don't.
