Anyone use and can recommend a GPS dog collar?

Tried a couple different ones and so far, nothing worth bragging about. I prefer one that doesn't need a base plugged into the house, but rather everything within the collar.

How much property do you have?
I have two SpotOn collars, and we’ve been happy overall with them. One was purchased in 4/2023 and the other 1/2025. The newer one has much better tracking capability and I believe the models sold now are even better. The first one had to be sent back because of a loose battery and there were some occasional bugs with it saying he had escaped when he hadn’t. It’s worked pretty well until recently, and it’s starting to act up and tone when it shouldn’t. I may have to upgrade it. We did do a hard reboot per tech supports suggestion and it seems to be good for now. We have had no issues with the one bought in 2025.
They don’t work as well for small containment zones, although they do have a newer model that is supposed to work better for that. I like being able to bring it on the road with us and I can create a fence wherever we go.

Are you looking for a containment collar or tracking/training?
The Garmin works great for tracking/training but won’t provide containment (you can set it for geo-location notifications).

Looking for a containment one and only really has to keep from going into the front yard, the rest of the yard is fenced.

I have Halo collars, they work well. I outlined where they can go here and at the place I go to in Alabama. It's a monthly sub though which sucks.

We use a Halo on our GSP. Works well, he responds to the static warnings really well if he gets out of line and needs a little reminder- like when he jumps in my wife's car and won't come out.

I have a Vizsla and I've always used Garmin for her. Works well and I have no complaints. Would definitely buy it again.

Dogtra Pathfinder series.
I use the mini series on my beagle. You can set up a fence with your finger on the app and fence in an area however big and cut up you want. It also has a couple of options where the fence is a certain range of the gps connector (I haven’t used them, not needed for me).
The mini collar battery will last pretty much all day when the fence is turned on.
It’s way cheaper than Garmin stuff, but Garmin is the gold standard with all my buddies who use hunting dogs.

This is the reason I can't make myself buy one. They seem awesome but paying $500+ for the collar and $10 a month for as long as I own a dog is hard to accept.

You don’t have to buy the subscription with SpotOn, but the collar is significantly more expensive.
ETA: subscription is only if you want/need tracking capability.
