Been once but hate to judge a restaurant from one experience. I had looked at the menu before arriving and had decided to order the gnocchi/rabbit entree since I like gnocchi and rabbit. Five minutes after ordering, the waiter returns to the table to say they hadn't thawed the rabbit, so that dish wasn't available. Sort of a letdown and since we had ordered a bottle of wine I changed to a fish dish to compliment the wine. The fish dish was okay, but not what I really wanted.
We had a similar experience the first time we went to Eliza when they were newly opened. Their initial menu emphasized fresh fish, and they listed six or seven types on the board. Well, they had two available that night and they also didn't have oysters, which affect several appetizers and two other entrees. So, it was like half the menu wasn't available.
Even after a poor initial experience, Eliza remains one of my favorites and hopefully Josephine redeem themselves on future visits.

went last night ... vibe is brighter, less interesting than I was expecting. I also wanted the Rabbit and they ran out of it.
The eggplant app was so meh and my lasagna was cold-ish.
Lots of kinks to work out, but i'm pulling for them. The menu just wasn't interesting enough to separate themselves from the others in town. Which are also very average (Nino's the exception).

Is this owned by the same folks that have Cafe Josephine in Sunset?

No, same owners as Eliza & Jed's in BR.

My wife went in January, and liked it. She suggested we go, so we made a reservation for the Tuesday night before Valentines day.
We were seated, and ordered drinks, the waitress came back and informed us that the rabbit was off the menu that night because they didn't thaw it. Same as what happened to you, I suppose.
She then informed us that they were also out of veal. We were both really interested in the veal dishes, so we cancelled the drink orders and went to Gino's instead. Had a great meal there, of course.
The waitress at Josephine's could not have been nicer about everything, and we felt bad about leaving, but really, an Italian restaurant that runs out of veal at 6:30 on a Tuesday? We will try Josephine's again, because we know the food is good, but we're not in any hurry to do so.

Thanks 3r.
I post a legit question out of curiosity due to the name Josephine being in both and get a downvote. Tough place the F&D.
