A moderate magnitude 4.4 earthquake hit 10 km (6.2 mi) away from Coushatta, Louisiana, ? United States, in the early morning of Thursday, Mar 5, 2026 at 5.30 am local time (America/Chicago GMT -6). The quake had a very shallow depth of 5 km (3.1 mi) and was felt widely in the area. The shallow depth of the quake caused it to be felt more strongly near the epicenter than a deeper quake of similar magnitude would.

I have always wondered about that.
Let’s say someone in South Louisiana didn’t get the earthquake rider or insurance, are they SOL if an earthquake or Tsunami hits the coast.
That is why, one change to the Flood insurance program I would suggest is that it becomes a nation wide natural disaster insurance reinsurance program that covers private insurance losses when claims exceed a certain threshold.
