at Jackson and Magnolia

quote:

NEW ORLEANS — Crews from the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board are responding to a water main break in Central City.

According to a S&WB officials, the break is on Jackson Avenue and Magnolia Street, where water was seen emerging from underground and collecting in the street.

As of 3 p.m., no official advisories have been issued. WWL Louisiana is on the scene.

This incident comes just a week after a significant water main break in nearby Uptown New Orleans at S. Claiborne Avenue and Toledano Street, which caused street flooding and led to the closure of schools and local businesses.

There are leaks all over uptown. They destroy the road until a car can just run over the pipe and create a huge problem. They don’t fix any of them until there is a huge problem.

Weird. Me and Ellishughtiger were just discussing how the city’s better than ever.

There are so many leaks one whole water tower of water is lost every day.

Yeah I walked down Willow through Tulane's campus on Sunday and it looked like there was a bustling brook coming from the ground.

ETA: side note, that stretch of Willow is basically non-navigable by vehicle. It looks like an earthquake ripped up the street.

If only it was that little. Estimates are more than half SWB water is lost to leaks (one estimate was 80%)

150MM gallons of water is produced every day. So 80MM is going to the ground. So about 30-40 of those water towers are going to the ground each day.

My favorite recently was the head of the SWB blaming the recent freeze for the underground pipe damage.

Honestly, more residential streets in the city should just be made of crushed and compact limestone and shell.

It would greatly reduce street flooding and when the pipes inevitably burst repairing the leak would be easier.

Lakeview and gentilly streets would benefit from this. It would be smoother, cheaper, draining better and be more durable than what they’ve got now.

I have been saying this for *years*
All the back alleys in Lakeview are already like this and it's fine.

Mayor Moreno needs to get out there and film another TikTok about it.
