boxcarbarney's Model Desk: 1:1000 Wrath of Khan Enterprise

I bought this kit on a whim thinking it would take me a weekend to put together.
Then I fell down the rabbit hole of paint designs and Aztec patterns on Star Trek ships.
Four weeks later I finally finished

That looks like a hell of a lot of decals or paint!

I had a similar kit as a kid and could never get the nacelles even.

Thanks. I enjoyed building this so much, I just ordered the companion USS Reliant model kit.

You did a much better job painting than I ever did. I got carried away painting the Enterprise-D and wound up ruining it. The patterns looked like polka dots.
I have this model and the Reliant. But haven't put them together yet. If I do, I'm just painting them gray.

Thanks. I bought the kit because the box said I could get Aztec decals for it. But I discovered that the Aztec decals were discontinued.
I was able to find Aztec mask stickers online for cheap.

As much as I love TNG, have never been a fan of this design (unlike ST3, I had zero reaction to the destruction of that Enterprise).
Sovereign class (E) is the sexiest.

Holy hell that is awesome! If that's painted, I pity you on all that masking!!

They have some really nice lighting kits for these models. Ones that have blinking lights and such.

With Arduino based micro processors and little coding knowledge DYI versions aren't that hard.
ETA: Some of the microcontrollers are pretty small.

You pulled that off in four weeks? That's just flat impressive. Nice kit!

Appreciate it.

An example of the lighting kit for this model I can get on ebay. I wasn't looking to add another layer of complexity so I opted to not light the kit.

Long ago I experiment with these techniques in the kid's HO train Layout, so I 100% get it.
But it's amazing what one can do with fiber optics and LED fairy lights.

The Enterprise D has that 90s sexiness to the design that I've always liked.
Its like this, but a starship
