Drove me nuts. I could see it was distracting the players as well.

I agree. It didn't bother me that much at first, but after it went behind the right field bleachers it really did start to kick up the dust. It was putting out enough wind to potentially knock down any balls hit deep as well, which would have REALLY been FUBAR.

Does anybody know why it was there? Seems to me they would have to get some kind of special permission from LSU to do that?

It was a photographer. LSU obviously hired him/her. Check lsusports.net and its lead photo is obviously taken from the copter.

LSU doesn't own the airspace...the FAA does..or at least has jurisdiction over it. There are FAA rules and regulations that apply to who can fly what and where before during and after different sporting events. If that aircraft was operating on behest of the university, be sure that they had the proper paper work, clearance and permission from the aviation authorities and LSU to be there.
